Chapter Twenty-Five

Four days.

It took four entire days of working tirelessly for the Empire to get their network up and running again; most of it due to Briar's relentless pursuit of creating a network the Rebellion wouldn't even be able to get close to. So, after countless coding and firewalls added, they were back and better than ever. Well, that was a lie, most of them took a major self-esteem hit. Including Briar. She was sure she was going to be fired and killed.

Briar was on her third cup of caf, swirling the lukewarm liquid around the cup as she stared at her boots. She was in yet another meeting, multiple people talking to her at once, asking her advice on subjects that seemed so obvious to her- Yes, use special forces to sabotage trade routes and continue the espionage missions. Stormtroopers aren't as skilled in tactical areas as they think. Leave the hard stuff to others that are better at shooting and actually hitting the damn target.

Her helmet sat on the table. No high-ranking officials were in the room, she thought herself safe from prying eyes. That was until Kylo Ren and the Inquisitors entered the room. Briar sat up, hauling her helmet up and over her head as they all sat down. The other military generals were silent as they all stared at the Force users, unsure why they all decided to occupy the room at once. They all pranced around like they were hot shit.

Trilla wasn't in attendance. Briar's eyes landed on the Fifth Brother, concern filling her as he took notice in her. "This is not all of you." Briar spoke up, pushing her chair out to cross her legs.

"That's none of your business." The Ninth Sister spoke, glaring at her. Briar cocked her head to the side as she took in the feral beast at the other end of the table. Kylo Ren ignored the women, removing his helmet and placing it on the table.

Briar's eyes scanned his scarred face, his haunting eyes burning into her helmet. He looked unhappy, but that may just be his face. Briar could understand now why Trilla couldn't stand the emo boy with the permanent pout on his face. He looked young and reckless.

"Second Sister has other business to attend to, she sends her apologies. Chief of War, Second Sister also asks for an update on the state of war once we are finished here." The Fifth Brother explained, pointing at Briar.

"I can holo-call her and-" Briar began to reason.

"No, Second Sister specifically requests not to be disturbed." Briar nodded solemnly. She was also assuming Trilla didn't want to speak over the comms either. A professional message from her datapad was it then. How romantic.

"Chief of War, the affairs of the Inquisitors are none of your concern. Do not ask questions you do not need to know the answer to." The Grand Inquisitor had not spoken to her once before, but now he fully stared at her from across the table with a scowl. Briar nodded solemnly, raising her gloved hands in surrender. She didn't want to pick a fight with him, it really was none of her business what Trilla did.

"We've come here to discuss plans for the final assault. We are running out of time and man-power to complete it. The decreasing morale in troopers has hindered our attempts greatly. They believe now that the Empire will not survive this war." Kylo spoke, making eye contact with everyone in the room at least once. Briar folded her hands over the table, leaning forward as she chuckled.

"You all realize how the Rebellion has gotten this far? How they've managed to get this close to beating us and ruling the Senate?" Briar asked, staring at all of them. The Fifth Brother sat back in his chair, watching Briar closely.

"Once troopers have defected, they're sharing all of their inside knowledge that we've gained. Why are we allowing this?" She asked, extending her hands out to further accentuate her question. Someone coughed to fill the silence. The room felt stuffy, filled to the brim with useless ideas.
