Chapter Fourteen

"Briar, just squeeze your ass into the trousers!" Alexis yelled, grabbing the struggling woman by her hips. Briar had made the mistake of allowing Alexis to dress her for her cover. Now, her bestfriend wouldn't rest until Briar both looked hot and taken at the same time.

"Do refrain from using vulgar language, Miss Cert." Trilla chimed in, entering Briar's living quarters wearing a cloak with a hood. Her voice still sounded distorted, Briar grabbing at her wife's chin. Her fingers met a cloth surface, tilting Trilla's face into the light to show the black mask she was wearing. Their eyes locked, Trilla glaring softly. The Inquisitor yanked her face away from Briar's grip, sitting at the foot of the bed.

"Do hurry, we need to leave soon." As Trilla spoke, Alexis rolled her eyes. Briar's best friend started yanking the pants back down, Briar almost losing her balance as her feet were freed from the tight clothing.

"Briar, does she always sound so stuck up?" Alexis asked, rifling through the Chief of War's dresser for another pair of pants. Briar's eyes shot over to Trilla as she lowered the hood of her cape, ruffling her fingers through her hair. She was suddenly awestruck by the woman sitting on her bed with a mask on. She knew Trilla could feel her eyes on her, but she had no shame.

"Ah, here." Alexis threw a burgundy pair of trousers at the woman standing in the middle of the room wearing only her boxers and sports bra. Briar slid the smooth fabric over her legs until the waistband was situated comfortably over her waist. They were high waisted, the fabric hugging her sides as she closed the pants by fastening the hook and eye button.

A black shirt was thrown at her next, tucking the shirt into the pants pulling out some to hang over the edge of her trousers. Alexis slid a black belt around Briar's waist, tightening it before stepping back, assessing how the woman looked.

"You need boots." The woman proclaimed, turning and sifting through a trunk of shoes. Shined black combat boots were dropped at her feet.

"Oh, come on! Those are my ceremonial dress shoes!" Briar exclaimed, knocking one of them over.

"I'm not going to argue with a woman who wears boots as dress shoes. Put them on." The icy look Alexis gave her sent chills down her spine, complying with the angry woman. Once the boots were laced and ready, Briar turned around to gauge Trilla's reaction.

Trilla had been in the process of fixing her hair again, her hand freezing on her head. Briar felt the Inquisitor's gaze fully swallow her, Trilla's eyebrows rising slightly. Her cheeks began to redden, removing her hand from her head as she pulled her gaze from the woman.

"That is fine. Come, need to leave." Trilla's voice was strained, rising from the bed without taking her eyes from the floor. Alexis giggled behind her, tossing a brown cloak with a hood over Briar's shoulders, the piece of clothing fastening to her by a chain over her chest.

"Wait, let me look at Briar and Trilla Suduri!" Briar groaned, standing next to Trilla with a glare.

"Oh, if only I had the love that you two share!" Alexis feigned, wiping a fake tear from her eye. Trilla sighed, pulling up the hood before grabbing the trunk of Briar's things, leaving the room.

"Alright, you come back to me. I'll be safe on my mission too, don't worry. We'll still have contact with each other. I love you." Alexis cupped her cheeks, running her thumbs over Briar's cheekbones. Love welled up in her chest as she stared at her best friend.

"I love you, Alexis. Be safe." Briar kissed her best friend's forehead, leaving the room.
