(Four Years before the Commander's rescue)
It's been nearly twelve months since Dr. Vahlen accepted (Y/N)'s deal. To say the least, she doesn't regret accepting it. Dr. Vahlen has fifteen other Scientists helping her research. She also increased the size of the lab since she wanted space to create a room where only she and (Y/N) are allowed.
They mainly keep anything Weapon related in the room since five scientists were executed for betraying them. One of them succeeded in leaking info about Meld being transported every month to their location.
(Y/N) tried to stop the leak but didn't fully succeed. Info about dangerous cargo got out but nobody knew it was Meld. However, one organization caught wind of it, XCOM. Every month (Y/N) goes out to protect the cargo with his squad. They come back unstarched but the cargo doesn't always come back in one piece. The only reason being is that XCOM has the support of at least one faction helping in every attack.
For the last four months, the Cargo has been fifty percent destroyed. XCOM squads have been succeeding in their strikes but not completely since the Meld transported are separated in twenty large trucks. Each truck can carry half a ton.
Dr. Vahlen exits her lab and makes her way to the training facility. She passes by all kinds of Aliens and Advent soldiers. Dr. Vahlen has seen that everyone here doesn't act on alert all the time and just relaxes and talks in their language.
The first time Dr. Vahlen explored the Facility, she was shocked. Then again she didn't know anything about Advent besides what the news always said.
(Y/N) explained to her that the Aliens and Advent soldiers under his command don't have chips. They are here because they are recruits and choose who they serve. They will get chips implanted if they serve under anyone else besides (Y/N).
Dr. Vahlen said that the Elders have too much trust in him. (Y/N) agreed and mumbled something else, but Dr. Vahlen didn't catch what.
Dr. Vahlen reaches the training facility and enters the room. (Y/N) is training the recruits which are made up of Ten Vipers, Eight Mutons, and Four Andromedons.
(Y/N): When fighting against your enemy, consider their cover. Should they be hiding behind a vehicle, consider blowing it up? Should they be hiding behind weak cover, considering shooting at the wall and killing them along with it? Should they be hiding behind a strong cover, consider drawing them out and shooting them immediately. In the field, take every option available to you, and watch each other's back. Continue training for thirty minutes and then everyone is dismissed.
The aliens go back to practicing as (Y/N) walks up to Dr. Vahlen. Dr. Vahlen brings up the file on her tablet to show (Y/N).
(Y/N)Is: Anything been discovered yet?
Dr. Vahlen: I have been trying to find any way to infuse Elements into the DNA of aliens, however...
(Y/N): However?
Dr. Vahlen: I can't seem to find a way to make the procedure safe. It will not be painful however, the main problem lies within the procedure. One wrong move and the subject dies.
(Y/N) signs in disappointment. He doesn't like risking the lives of his troops. To him, that would be dishonorable.
???: If I can intervene, may I be your test subject commander?
(Y/N) and Dr. Vahlen looks to the right to see a Viper approach them.

(Y/N): I will not allow this procedure to go through. It's too risky.
Dr. Vahlen: Only if we mess it up. However, the procedure's risks can be minimized if we take our time.
(Y/N) thinks about it and comes to a decision.
(Y/N): What's your name Soldier?
Torque: Torque.
(Y/N): Follow Dr. Vahlen to the lab where you will be told what the procedure is about and the risks. Should you pass away, I will be sure to remember the name of my brave soldier.
Torque chuckles.
Torque: I'm not weak, I will survive. I don't intend to leave the best commander I have served.
Torque leaves the room with Dr. Vahlen. Dr. Vahlen can be heard chuckling softly. (Y/N) hums in amusement.
(Y/N): What a unique Viper.
(Y/N) goes back to watching the recruits' training.
(Unknown Location)
???: Outrider, report.
Outrider: The materials they keep transporting are always going to the same place.
???: What is it?
Outrider: I have sent the files to Chief Lily Shen.
???: Lily tell me what you have found out.
Lily: The security wasn't much so I already broke through. However, I don't know what this is Bradford.
Bradford: Give me a name.
Lily: Meld
Bradford's eyes widen in horror.
Bradford: Outrider can you find the location where these supplies are going?
Lily is surprised by Bradford's fearful voice.
Outrider: It seems I have been locked out. However, I do have coordinates. Shall I ask Volk to assemble a team of Reapers to sneak in and destroy the facility?
Bradford: No, we are going to wait for the next transport. However, this time we follow them through the shadows.
Outrider: Very well, Outrider reporting out.
Lily: If I dare ask, why are you scared of Meld?
Bradford: I am not scared of Meld. I am scared of its capabilities. Meld allows the DNA of a person to be changed, however, only one scientist ever figured this out, Dr. Vahlen.
Lily: You don't think.
Bradford: I don't know. Dr. Vahlen in the most respectful way was a risk-taker. It's only thanks to the commander that she was more controlled in her activities. However, I can only guess what she is up to without anyone controlling her activities. I just hope I am proven wrong.
Bradford leaves the bridge with Lily following.

That marks the end of the chapter. We are getting closer to the Commander's release. Which means things will only get interesting from there. However, we still got a few more chapters before that happens.
Seems the Stronghold will be found or will the group be spotted before they even get their answers? Will torque survive the procedure? I feel like we already know the answer to this.
