TWENTY-TWO

Well Lilly decided to stay over at Matt's after what she went through today.

"Thank you guys, you really don't need to let me stay if you don't want me to, I can go home."

"No, trust us, we want you here, your're are friend Lilly, why wouldn't we?" I asked.

"I don't know," it went silent for a few seconds. "Well, I'm tired and I'm stressed, so I'm going to lay down and sleep now," said Lilly.

"Okay, we'll be upstairs if you need us," said Matt, joining the conversation.

"Okay." me and Matt headed upstairs and did our usual thing. I got into bed and cuddled up next to Matt, he wrapped his arms tightly around me, his body is so warm. I quickly fell asleep.

-----------(Next day.)

"Thanks guys, I need to get out and do something fun, especially with my two best friends," Lilly said as we parked the car outside of Pratt's Public Swimming. As far as I could see there were only like, three other people here.

"Fifteen dollars please," said a woman when we got to the paying center. Matt handed her the money and we went through the building, coming out of the other side where the pool was.

Lilly decided to lay in a chair and get a tan. Me and Matt took our shirts off and jumped into the pool, our fingers intertwined. When we were underwater I swam to Matt and he grabbed me, pulling me to him. I leased in and kissed the heck out of him, right there under- water. We eventually came up to breath of course. "I love you," said Matt putting his lips against mine one last time.

"Love you too baby."

-------------(later that night)

"Hey, I haven't seen Lilly in a couple hours, she said she was going to watch some TV and would be back down in a bit, have you seen her?" asked Matt.

"No, wanna go up and check?"

"Yeah."

We walked quietly upstairs and went to the room that had a TV on. "Lilly?" I asked going into the room, Matt behind me. I gasped and Matt ran over to Lilly, she was laying face down in the floor and the way she was breathing was not right at all.

"Call 911!" Matt yelled. I grabbed the phone and carefully dialed 911.

"Do you think she'll be okay?" Matt asked when we got home from the hospital.

"Yes, I'm sure she'll be just fine baby."

"I hope so," Matt said, his eyes filling with tears.

"Baby, don't cry, they're doing test and everything."

"Ye-yeah but th-they rushed her into the operating room and then p-put her in the ICU," he said, now crying fully.

"Oh, c'mere," Matt came to me and I placed kisses all over his face and wiped his tears away. His phone suddenly started ringing.

"Hello," Matt answered. "Yeah, why?" he looked at me. "Sure, see ya then. Bye," he pressed the wed button.

"Who was that?"

"A job I applied for, I have to go into work in the morning, lets head up to bed please Danny?"

"That's great! Sure, lets go."

-----------(next day)

I didn't want to come alone to the hospital. But I had no choice since Matt had to work. "I'm here to see Lilly."

"Um, last name?"

"I don't know."

"Well there is one Lilly here so that's good, um, room 115," said the lady at the desk.

"Thanks." I walked down a long hall till I found the door with a 115 on it. I knocked three times and went in.

"Danny! Where's Matt?" said Lilly, she didn't look to good, there was a tube like thing that went up her nose and she had some blood on her gown.

"Um, he went to work, how ya feeling?"

"Oh. Good as I'll ever be."

"That's good," just then a knock on the door, an older doctor entered the room.

"Sorry no visitors at this time, we have to tell Lilly her test results, I'm gonna have to asked you to leave sir," said the doctor when he saw mw sitting in the chair beside the bed.

"Oh um, ok-" I got cut off.

"He can stay," Lilly piped up. The doctor nodded.

"Well Lilly, your lungs filled with fluid, causing you to breath irregularly which slowed your heart. After running some test, we found out what was wrong."

"What is it?" me and Lilly said together.

"I'm afraid you have cancer." Oh my god, cancer?

"What?" Lilly said, her voice shaky. She started to cry shortly after, as did I. I rubbed her leg and told her it would be okay.

"Lilly," said the doctor.

"Y-yes?"

"You can leave tomorrow but you'll be connected to an oxygen tank with the tube that is in your nose, you will have to take it around with you wherever you go."

Lilly cried even harder. I shook my head. I looked to the doctor, and mouthed, "thank you for telling us."

"One more thing before I leave, you can't smoke around the oxygen tank. That's it, except to tell you I'll be back in the morning and let you sign your release papers and some other stuff for the oxygen tanks."

"O-okay, t-thanks doctor, I appropriate it," said Lilly.

-------------(later that night)

"What?" Matt started to cry, I ran to hug him him.

"Its okay, she gets out tomorrow baby."

"I know but it just, his could she just get cancer like that Daniel? I don't get it."

"Me either baby." I rubbed his back slowly in circles. "You ready for bed?"

"Hell yeah," Matt said, lifting up from my shoulder, wiping his tears and kissing me. He then led me upstairs and into bed, where I fell asleep in his arms, and our fingers intertwined.
