No.This wasn't right.
Alex stood up abruptly, tears still running down his face. Patrons stared at him as he darted toward the door. He threw the door open, damn near causing the bell attached to break.
Without even thinking he kept his eyes closed and practically tackled Wilbur. Alex wrapped his arms tightly around the brunette, crashing into him with so much force he nearly shoved both of them directly onto the street. Luckily, Wilbur was easily able to support Alex's weight.
Alex buried his face in the comfort of Wilbur's sweater, letting out soft sobs and sniffles. Wilbur slowly but surely reciprocated. Embracing Alex right back, and eventually placing his head on top of Alex's.
Alex knew there were probably dozens of people on the streets, staring at the two's dramatic display.
"I'm so sorry," Wilbur would mutter.
"Shut up," Alex would say, simply relishing in the moment.
At least that was the scene he played out in his head.
That's what Alex wished he could do.
But he couldn't even bring himself to stand up, much less race out of the café and chase down his boyfriend... No... Ex-boyfriend.
Alex watched the window until Wilbur had crossed the street and disappeared from view.
Then he broke down, the second Wilbur was out of sight it finally felt like he was gone. It finally felt like it was over. Stifled sobs escaped from Alex but he couldn't bring himself to care.
He was gone. Wilbur was gone.
Niki seemed to have either finally noticed what had happened or had finally had enough and help she needed to step in. She walked over to Alex, immediately hugging him and whispering reassurances that everything would be okay.
After a few minutes of trying to talk him down and it having no effect, she coaxed Alex to stand up. She walked him back behind the counter, shooting dirty looks at anyone who stared at Alex or whispered to their friends.
Niki guided him into the backroom before calling Schlatt to come pick him up, promising once again that everything would be okay, and reluctantly returning to work.
Alex just sat there, tears still streaming down his face. He was pathetic. Sitting there and acting like a little kid who scraped his knee, not a grown adult who can't even handle one tiny breakup.
Finally, Schlatt arrived.
He stormed into the café looking as though he was gonna kill someone. Niki led Schaltt into the back room as well, seemingly ignoring how much trouble she knew both her and Alex were gonna get in if their manager found out about this.
When Schlatt came back and Alex saw the look on his face, he was worried that Schlatt was going to yell at him. But, his fears were quickly dismissed as Schlatt dropped to his knees, hugging Alex and muttering under his breath about how he was gonna kill Wilbur.
Any other time it probably would've made Alex laugh but right now he couldn't seem to muster up anything but a tearful chuckle no matter how much he tried. Schlatt eventually stood up and then urged Alex to do the same, which he reluctantly did.
As they were walking out of the café patrons continued to stare and whisper, this time however, instead of giving them dirty looking like Niki did, Schlatt would either sneer at them or straight up tell them to fuck off.
Once they finally got in the car Schlatt finally shut up with his remarks about how much of a bastard Wilbur was. Which Alex was grateful for. Either though he may have found it funny or endearing any other time, right now it just felt like salt right in the wound.
They spent the car ride mostly in silence and Alex took the time to calm himself, and to finally stop crying. When they got home Schlatt started yelling at Alex to go drink some water because he had probably dehydrated himself from crying so much.
Alex chuckled and got a glass of water before thanking Schlatt and retreating back to his bedroom. He placed the water on his bedside table before curling up in bed, not even bothering to take his uniform off.
Now that he was alone it was taking everything in his power to not start crying again. He just laid there, his hands shaking as he desperately tried to think about anything but Wilbur. But he couldn't help but think about all those ways it could've gone differently.
Alex logically knew he couldn't handle having a kid right now, he was still in college for fuck's sake. Even then, Alex had never wanted to be a father, he had never been the biggest fan of children in general, and the thought of having his own just made him feel sick.
But, even with that, Alex still couldn't stop the ache in his heart when he thought about Wilbur's kid.
He wanted to know their name. What they looked like. How old they were. What they were like. And he couldn't wrap his head around why. He didn't want this kid, why did it hurt that he'd never know anything about them.
None of this made sense.
And as tears began to drip down Alex's face again, the only word repeating in his head was "Why?"

Fun fact: we were gonna write a chapter where Wilbur and Quackity made up and everything was really wholesome then at the end reveal it was an April fools day joke then publish the real, angsty chapter, but we didn't have time to get it done
