I walked away from the body I had just shot.
"Ray! You have to get rid of the evidence!" My partner, or more like a stalker, said. I had disobeyed orders from my boss and ended up with an idiot.
"You do it. I'm not getting paid for this kill." I said, rolling my eyes. I could hear sirens from around the corner. "It's up to you. Dispose of the body or leave. I'm picking the second. Caio~"
"Ray, you absolute piece of shit!" I flipped him off before turning the corner right towards the cops.
"Officer! I just saw someone get murdered in the alleyway. I think the murder is still there!" I cried, wiping the fake tears as I went along with the story.
"Ok, calm down, kid. Stay here. We'll handle this." The cop reassured.
"I'll get back at you, Ray!" I snickered as I heard my partner yell.
...
"Ray." My boss said. His voice was eerily calm.
"Yes, sir?"
"Your partner said that you refused to hide the body. Then, you proceeded to frame Erin." He smiled at me, but there was nothing happy about that smile. It was menacing like he was teasing me.
"He isn't my partner. You just sent him to stalk me," I argued.
"Answer the question!" He yelled. There it was. He was mad at me. My evening won't be fun.
"Yes, sir. I refused to hide the body, and I framed him." I bowed my head. There was no getting out of this one.
"Reed! Take Ray to the room. I'll be there shortly."
"As you wish," Reed replied.
He couldn't send me there. He promised he wouldn't.
Reed grabbed my arm and led me to the room I was in for hours a day as a child.
"Stay here." He ordered, locking the door before leaving.
"Yea, because I'll obviously be able to leave by opening the door." I heard him checking the door. He actually checked?! Well, I guess that's what happens when you're notorious for picking locks.
I scanned the room. It hadn't changed since the last time I was here. I think that was three months ago. The room was dark, but I could make out small details. The broken wall, smashed lights, and shattered mirrors were still evident.
He had thrown me into that wall when I was seven. He thought that leaving me in the darkness would eliminate my fear of the dark. However, the mirrors were the worst. After all, the self-hate drove me to shatter every one of those mirrors.
The door opened and hit the wall with a thud.
"Ray, you understand what happens when you ignore my orders," Boss said. He had a small pocket knife in his hand. He lifted it to test my patience.
"I won't do it again, sir." I apologized.
"It's a little too late, Ray." He roughly grabbed my arm and placed the knife on my wrist. It slowly cut into my skin as I hissed in pain. I watched as blood seeped out. I tried pulling my arm, but his grip was too strong, and my arm was already in pain. My eyes closed as tears blocked my vision.
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to scream.
But I couldn't.
When he finally let go of my arm, all I could see was blood. It wouldn't stop.
...
My eyes opened as I became aware of where I was.
"Oh, Ray! You're up." The nurse, Kylie, said.
"What a joy!" I mumbled, rubbing my eyes. My right arm was in bandages, and the events of earlier came flashing back.
"I stitched and bandaged your injury for you!" She said, noticing my glances at my arm. She seemed high. Kylie wasn't a certified nurse. She was once homeless and claimed to know medical stuff. I've never been more scared for my health.
"I hope you die." I got off the bed and walked out.
The boss was waiting outside my room.
"Ah, Ray. It's good to see your arm is fine." This bitch.
"Thank you, sir."
"I'm giving you a chance to redeem yourself. There's a mission for you to complete. You must kill the son of the Black Clover's leader. You have three months to do so. We'll enroll you as a student at Clover Academy, where the boy attends. You'll be staying in a dorm until the job is done."
"Ok, sir."
"Don't disappoint me, Ray. I've left some files in your room." With that, he left.
I walked inside my room, and sure enough, a stack of files was sitting on my bed. The top file showed a picture of the boy. His name was Norman. He was pretty good looking.
Norman Clover
Age 17
Parents: Marcus Clover (Alive), Maria Clover (Deceased)
Siblings: None
School: Clover AcademyClover Academy, huh. I haven't been there in years. I wonder if anything has changed. I wonder if anyone still remembers me. I still do. Some of those people were the only real friends I had. Maybe this mission won't be as bad as I thought. At the very least, I'll be away from here.
I put the papers down as I felt a jolt of pain on my arm. I grabbed my arm and fell backwards into a chair. The bandage was slowly coming off, along with the terrible stitches. I slowly opened my eyes, teeth clenched in pain. A heart was messily carved into my forearm, covered with blood. Red Hearts.
I really was trapped, wasn't I?
