"Umm, hey?"

...

I have never been this lucky. My victim was my roommate. This would be so easy.

"Hey," Norman replied. He looked me up and down slowly. "I'm Norman."

"I'm Ray." We stared awkwardly at each other. What were we supposed to do? Could I just kill him now?

"You can have that side of the room." Norman pointed at the left side of the room. Never mind, I'm too lazy to kill him. The bed looks comfy.

"Thanks." I put my stuff on the bed and sat down.

"So, how much do you like the school?"

"It's decent. How about you?" I questioned. The school had been remodeled, so I didn't know where everything was.

"It could be better. It's pretty boring. What classes did you get?" I showed him the paper with the list of classes. I took a few random classes since I didn't expect to stay here for the entire term.

"You took physics?" Norman looked at me in surprise.

"I did?" I was genuinely confused. There was no way I'd survive physics.

"How do you not know what you picked?"

"I just picked random classes. I didn't expect to get physics!" I put my hands up in defense.

"You're so stupid!" Norman laughed. Forget it, I'm murdering this bitch. "I can help you switch the class if you want?"

"Really? That would be great!" I was not getting stuck with physics.

"Yea, we can do it first thing tomorrow. I have to switch a few of my classes as well."

...

I made my way to the back of the academy. Taking a breath, I unlocked my phone and dialed boss's number.

"Good evening, Ray." I heard from the other side of the phone.

"Hello, sir."

"Have you settled in?"

"Yes, sir."

"Have you met 'him'?"

"I have, sir."

"You have one chance, Ray. I'm giving you 5 months to complete this task. If you fail to end Norman, I won't fail to end you. Do you understand?"

"I understand, sir." The call ended as I took a breath of relief.

"Was that your dad?" A voice spoke.

"What the fuck!" I screamed, jumping away.

"Woah! Chill out." Norman yelled.

"You just came out of nowhere!"

"Sorry! I brought you coffee." He offered me the cup.

"Thanks, but I don't drink coffee."

"Yea, me neither." Norman dumped the coffee in a nearby trash bin.

"That was a fantastic way to waste."

"What? You didn't want it! Hell, I didn't even want it."

"Then why did you bring it?!"

"My cousin handed it to me! He said I should get to know you."

"Ok then. My name is Ray. I love tea. And my parents are dead."

"Well, that was interesting. My name is Norman. I love hot chocolate. And I don't have a mom."

"There now we know stuff about each other." I smiled.

"So, who were you talking to on the phone?"

"My uncle," I said without skipping a beat. That was my go-to answer every time someone asked me about boss. No one seemed to question it because a kid without parents would obviously go to live with some existing family. I, however, didn't know if I had any family alive. Every time I would hack into the system to find stuff about me, there would be no family listed under my name. Not even my parents' names.

Norman and I continued talking about random things. There were many things files couldn't tell.   I looked around the area, spotting a lock of green hair running past a few trees.

Amber.

Shit, boss must have sent her to keep an eye on me. I couldn't let Norman see her.

"Do you want to go inside? It's starting to get cold." I asked, my voice staying as calm as possible.

Norman looked around, "Yea, it is." The two of us entered the dorm building. "So, how long are you staying here for?"

"What makes you assume I'm leaving?" I said, looking back at him.

"Well, you don't seem like the type of person who stays for long." Norman pointed out. He wasn't wrong.

"Probably a few months."

"That's a shame. I was looking forward to spending more time with you." He winked.

"Eh, what's that supposed to mean!"

"Whatever you want it to mean." He smiled. With that, he opened our dorm and walked in. I followed after him, not wanting to be left outside.

...

I sat with a cup of tea and my computer in the academy cafe. My laptop was on, but I was scanning the room for any sign of Amber.

"Morning, Ray." A voice said. Jumping over the table, Amber swiftly took a seat.

"What do you want," I sighed.

"Well, the boss sent me here to watch over you, but I saw an adorable girl over there so I'm trying to act natural."

"You look far from natural."

"Shut up. How's your little mission going?"

"Decent, I guess." I haven't done much besides getting lost in his stupid eyes.

"Don't screw this one up. I'm pretty sure the boss is serious about this." She looked genuinely worried. "And some of us actually enjoy having you around."

"Sure, Amber. But, next time try not to let your stupid hair get seen while spying on me."

"Who, me? Never!" She gasped sarcastically. I kicked Amber's leg as Norman entered the cafe. She to the hint and got up, "I'm not telling the boss anything he doesn't need to know. Enjoy yourself here, Ray. Maybe you should find someone who can help you when you need it." With that, she walked off.

"Ray! There you are! I couldn't find you when I woke up." Norman announced, sitting down across from me.

"You're too bright and sunny for 7 in the morning. Go back to your rainbow or something." I groaned.

"No offense, but that isn't an insult. It sounds nice."

"I hope you fall off the rainbow."

"Very funny, Mr. Grumpy." He rolled his eyes.

"That's not an insult, Mr. Fucking Rainbow!"

Norman smirked before saying, "The rainbow says you look cute."

"Uh."

"We should get your classes changed." He continues as if nothing happened.
