prologue.
It was the end of Summer vacation and the start of a new chapter for me. Instead of enjoying my time off, I was moving. Moving away from my roots in L.A. to a small town in northern California called Woodsboro.
Our new house was very nice and spacious, that was a plus, but it just wasn't the same. There was no skating rink, no recording studios, no nothing. It was just straight suburbs. Straight silence. Straight boring.
As stated, it was the end of summer break, the last day to be specific. Today I was supposed to meet with the principal, guidance counselor, and a student government member at Woodsboro High.
"Are we going straight home after?" I asked.
My dad opened my door and held his hand out. "Yes we are because I need to unpack my office."
"Your toy collection can wait, Marcus." My mom rolled her eyes. "Come on, both of you."
I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the car. Suddenly, the thought of helping my dad set up his train and model car collection didn't sound so bad. It beat being here.
"Dad, if I let this go smoothly, you promise to stop mom from stopping at every store she sees?" I got out of the car.
"I can try. Doesn't mean she'll listen."
We both sighed. My mother had a shopping addiction. She is what one would call an impulse buyer; she would buy anything she saw, no matter what.
"I heard that." She called from in front of us.
I got quiet. I wanted today to go as smoothly as possible so I could go home, get my room together, and pick up where I left off in L.A.: working on music.
When we got inside the building, we were greeted by a man and a woman who looked like she could be my older brother's girlfriend. The man was well-dressed, around my dad's age, and had a full head of hair. The woman was very pretty. She had long, dark hair and green eyes, wore a pair of jeans and white T-shirt with a gold necklace.
"You must be the Williams!" The man stepped forward and held his hand out. "I'm Arthur Himbry, the principal, and this is Ms. Baker, the junior and senior guidance counselor."
Ms Baker smiled and waved as my dad shook Principal Himbry's hand.
"I'm Marcus, this is my wife, Carmen, and our daughter, Soleil." My dad introduced us.
I waved before focusing my attention on the sign that hung behind Principal Himbry and Ms Baker. It read "Woodsboro High: Home of the Wolves".
"Soleil!" My dad nudged my shoulder.
"Sorry, I was reading the sign behind you guys." I apologized.
"It's all right, you'll see it soon enough." Principal Himbry said. "Let's get to my office so we can get everything in order."
We were led to an office not too far from the entrance. It was kinda cramped and filled with all sorts of books, plaques, and files. Principal Himbry sat at his desk and picked up the only file that rested on his desk. He signaled for me to sit in one of the chairs in front of his desk while opening the file. I sat and looked at the file, reading as much as I could.
In his hands were my transcript, schedule, and some other things. As far as I knew, I had a great GPA, good classes, and slightly above average grades. I didn't really care about grades much, I just learned the material and did it so I could go about my business.
"This is quite impressive, Ms. Williams." He complimented before looking at my parents. "She's remarkable."
"Try telling her that when her head is constantly in the clouds..." I could feel my mom eyeing me down.
