three.
The end of the week had come quicker than expected, wrapping up my first full week at Woodsboro High. It was a good week too.
I had become friendlier with Tatum, Rue, and Kevin and had even made the Varsity cheer-leading squad. I was hype! Everything was slowly getting better.
"Hey, Sol," Tatum placed her hand on my shoulder. "You ready to go?"
To celebrate my cheer victory, Tatum, Sidney, and I were going to have a sleepover. Sidney and I still weren't on speaking or acquaintance terms but somehow agreed to come to Tatum's after practice.
"Yeah, I'm ready." I smiled. "I put my bags in your car this morning."
Tatum chuckled at the mention of my multiple bags. "Bags? How much shit do you need?"
"I have hair stuff, skin care, clothes, and other stuff. I like options." I winked before we broke out in laughter.
Tatum and I began our way to the parking lot. We were headed straight to her place.
"Also, you killed those tryouts! I've never seen anyone that flexible!" She complimented, referring to my splits. "I wish you'd stunt tho, you have a great flyer bod."
I wasn't the petite-est person to have walked the earth. I didn't know what she meant by saying I could be a flyer. I was a few inches too big and my assets weighed me down.
"You know my boobs are way too big to be a flyer." I jokingly rolled my eyes.
"Your ass is kinda big too. You're like the perfect proportion." She complimented. "You're brand new and the whole school is already drooling over. It's not fair."
"Well sorry, I didn't mean to take attention away from you." I giggled as we reached her red punch-buggie. "Is Sidney getting dropped off or are we picking her up?"
Tatum unlocked her car and bit her lip. She was hiding something.
"Tate?" Once I was in the passenger's seat, I found myself glaring at her. "What's going on?"
"We're actually going to be at Sidney's..." She trailed off as she started the engine. "I wanted to find a way to get you two to become friends."
I scoffed. "Yeah, no. You saw how she was when we went shopping!"
The day we went shopping with Sidney, she spent the day shooting me glares and excluding me from conversations between her and Tatum. She'd switch between isolating herself—or excluding me—from anything that involved me with her friends.
Every encounter I had with Sidney, I tried to be friendly. I wanted to be cool with her. She was the one that had a clear dislike for me because of her horny boyfriend, Billy.
"I know but I have hope!" Tatum exclaimed. "There's no way she'll be a bitch during a sleepover, I promise!"
My stomach sank in disbelief. I believed Tatum's authentic remarks and faith, I just doubted her friend. "Tate, I'm telling you—"
"Just trust me, I got it covered."

And she did, though we didn't actually stay at Sidney's. That was a joke, we just picked her up. When we got back to Tatum's house, we had gotten our little party started, the three of us found ourselves having genuine fun. So far, I had done Tatum's hair, we ordered pizza, made cake, and watched some chick-flicks.
During this time, Sidney had been nicer towards me. It was nothing over the top "hey bestie", but more talkative and friendly. She was treating me like a new potential friend and I kind of liked it.
"Congrats on making the cheer squad, Soleil." Sidney congratulates me.
I turned to face her, shocked that she had complimented me, and smiled. "Thanks."
"OMG, you should've seen her, Sid. She was going all crazy with the tumbling and choreography, she was like, straight off a music video set!" Tatum placed her hands on my shoulders.
"You tumble?" Sidney asked.
"I can do basic tricks, I'm mainly flexible. I do dance though." I said while reaching for my satin scarf.
"Oh wow, that's cool." She began to redirect her attention to Tatum. "Billy told me Casey cheated on Stu with Steve."
Tatum's jaw dropped. "Stu said he left her for me."
I grabbed my brush and did my best to not make a face. So it seems the bestie boys have a common trait of lying... On the inside, I was dying of laughter.
That call Billy got when he was bringing me home was loud. You could hear Stu's tears while yelling about Casey leaving him, that was what made Billy tell me what was going on.
"That's crazy. Sol, what do you think?" Tatum nudged my leg.
I jolted, having zoned out, and looked at the two girls. "What happened?"
"Casey, Stu's ex, apparently left him for this other guy on the football team named Steve. To be honest, he's a total babe and Case is a big slut..." Tatum shrugged, unapologetic with her statement.
"Tate!" Sidney gasped.
"What? It's true!"
I began to brush my hair while listening to the two friends bicker. "Well, what were you told by your boyfriends?"
Their bickering halted and they looked at me, kind of puzzled. Tatum reached for a teddy bear and held it close to her while Sidney shifted in her seat. The both of them seemed kind of confused and unsure if they knew the truth or not.
"Well Stu asked me out a few days after him and Casey split and swore he didn't want things to go on too long. They must've been a summer fling or something."
SIdney nodded. "That's what Billy was saying. He also said something about Casey running for Steve at the first opportunity she got. She could've cheated..."
Butterflies fluttered inside of me as I debated on telling the girls what I knew; I didn't owe Sidney that information but with Tatum and I becoming friends, telling her would benefit her. Especially with her not knowing the truth. However, the more I began to think about it, the more I began to wonder what telling them would benefit, I mean, it was a small lie.
A lie that started their relationship... I was puzzled. I really didn't know if I should say anything or not.
"Sol, you okay?" Tatum asked.
I nodded, beginning the process of putting a doobie in my hair. "Yeah, just thinking."
"Well while you do that," Tatum paused and stood up from off the bed. "I'm gonna go pee. Be right back."
When Tatum left, an awkward tension found its way into the room. Sidney had something to say but avoided me, while I was still debating on speaking up or not.
I guess I should start with talking to Sidney... I bit my lip. Here goes nothing. I sat my brush on the bed and turned to face Sidney. She wasn't paying attention to me in that moment so I took the chance to confront her.
"Sid, I don't know what I could've done to make you act all cold and uppity, I don't know what you might've heard about me either." I watched as she looked kind of shocked. "What I'm getting at is that I don't expect us to become the best of friends overnight, but I hope we can at least be civil."
"I don't hate you, I just don't see us being close." She stated, nervously looking off.
I knew what she was thinking about when she said that. "Look, if it's about Billy, nothing happened. I don't go after other girl's boyfriends. Think what you want about me but that's the truth." With that last statement, and a lot of anger, I stood up from the bed and went to find Tatum.
