eleven.
When school started on Monday, there was a lot of gossip surrounding the previous week. Talk of new suspected couples, another new girl, petty drama, and a potential murderer named Cotton Weary.
Some people said that he was a crazy ex of Mrs. Prescott whereas others speculated the most outlandish stories to get back at Sidney. The truth, according to the police, was less complica. Cotton had been seeing Mrs. Prescott for some time and offed her when she refused to leave her husband. It was that simple according to their findings and the story from Tatum.
Other than the talk about the Prescotts, there was a new girl. According to Tatum, she was a returning student and really pretty. Her name was Lena Howard and she was returning from the east coast after being gone for six months.
"Pst!" I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Rue staring at me. She looked down at her hand and then in the direction of the door as he handed me a note. "That's from lover boy." She teased before looking back at the door. "And that's the new girl."
I looked in the direction of the door and watched as the girl walked in. It felt like a scene out of a movie as I watched her strut her way in. Her hair was a long, luscious shade of auburn, her eyes a crystal shade of blue, and the face of a literal supermodel.
All eyes were glued onto her as she made her way down the aisle and towards the desk in front of me. She was obviously uncomfortable and looked like she wanted to leave but the straight expression she wore protected her.
"Is this seat taken?" She asked.
I looked at her in awe as I shook my head. "No, go ahead."
For almost two weeks, I was free of temptation but now faced with this beautiful girl and a possible relationship with Billy.
"Thanks," She smiled as she sat down. "I'm Lena."
Rue and I exchanged a quick stare before introducing ourselves. Lena smiled at us again, took a quick look at the classroom, and turned to face the chalkboard.
"You look star struck." Rue leaned forward and whispered in my ear. "You should read that note from Prince Charming before she corrupts you."
I looked at her, obviously confused. Rue looked at me and rolled her eyes before mouthing that she'd tell me later.
I glanced back at the middle of the back row and saw Billy looking in my direction. A flirty smile curved on to his lips as waved at me.
I returned the smile before quickly turning around. For the last month or so, I had spent most of my time ignoring Billy that I often forgot that he was in this class.
Hmm... I hummed as I unfolded the letter, smiling at the scribbles of words.
I like when I don't have to hunt you down for attention. I hope your day's going well, you look beautiful.
I folded the note back up and looked over at Billy. He was still staring at me, studying me almost, as he winked at me.
We didn't really establish what was going on between us, leaving some room for awkward tension on my end. It was nice though. I appreciated his gestures and being in a place where I could receive them without feeling any guilt.
"Okay guys, settle down." Our history teacher walked into the classroom. "We can talk about weekends later but I have a video and worksheet for you to do."
