The crescent moon hung high in the sky and drifting clouds floated by. The wind blew through the trees and petals landed between us. Questions swarmed Waves eyes as he stared into mine, and I intended to answer them, but i dont know if i will. "Where were you, all this time?"

"I dont know if I can answer that."

Wave looked at me, angrily this time, "So you are just not going to say anything?! You are just gonna leave again like last time?!"

I bit my lips and brought my knees closer to me, "I will try to answer some of your questions, but some I cant, okay? I will tell you what happened, but not the entire thing, so just hear me out, alright?" Wave must have heard the desperation in my voice because his eyes softened and he quietly leaned back against the tree next to me and waited for me to continue.

Another day was spent playing by the river with Wave and my brother. We made a competition to see how many fish we can catch, I won having 12 in total while wave had 7. He complained and I laughed and everything seemed okay at the moment because I was happy, genuinely happy.

My father called us in and Wave was left with his mother. We went to our tent in the far left. My father told us to dress up in our nicest clothes so my brother and I did. We walked for what seemed like hours and I wondered where we were going. We ended walking to an abandon meadow with long wheat grass. There was a peculiar stone in the middle of the meadow, but it was very beautiful. I was large and designed as a beautiful women with stone wings on her back. "Children, this is your mother." My father spoke with sadness edged with his words. I stared at the statue in wonder and fascination.

I never had a mother before. Father said she died in another village up north in a fire. It was always cold, is what my father said, but when she was around it was always warm to him. "You both were born there as twins, but you were to young to remember anything, to remember her. I was in the city selling the weapons I built when she died. When I came back to the village, I found you guys wrapped around her favorite red cloak. She wore it at our wedding. She was beautiful." My father stared at the statue, mumbling quietly to us. I walked around the statue, examining each and every detail.

"I took you guys and whatever that wasn't destroyed in the attack and ran. I ran so fast for days with you in my arms until we reached a peaceful place, one far away from the tragedy. It was here. I raised you guys here with the help of Wave's mother and Father. They are really the nicest people I have ever met." Father exclaimed with a small smile on his lips. My eyes widened and my heart began to swell. In my entire life, I haven't seen my father genuinely smile. He was always strict and stern, gloomy and nearly drunk most of the time. All he ever did was spend his time in his lab, creating experiments and spend weeks in the Capital.

I didn't know how to react.

We stared at the statue for what seemed like hours, no words were spoken. Just the sound of the wind blowing through the trees and grass loomed over us. My Father's calm face shifted. His eyebrows furrowed, his teeth clenched, hand bawled into fists, and eyes began to water. He brought his fist up and smashed the delicate statue, breaking off the woman's arm. I stepped back and grabbed my brother and pulled him behind me. He clutched my cloak in fear while I shushed him quietly. Father kept smashing the statue bit by bit until it fell and shattered completely. Streaks of blood dripped down his arm as he breathed heavily.

He looked at us children, nothing but rage clouding his tear stained eyes. "Why did she die? It would have been better if you two did, not her!"

"F-Father, what are you sa-"

Pain stung my cheek. I felt my stomach sink and my eyes began to sting. My body was paralyzed.
