As Hicks took a breather, trying to control his anger, the two guilty officers just stared at the floor with worried faces. Hicks slowly made his way to his desk, and grabbed the two documents resting on top of his desk calendar.
"Do you know what this is?" he asked, with the two documents in hand
In that moment, and before getting a chance to answer, a knock was heard in the door.
"I'm busy!" Hicks called from his position
"Commander, may I have a word? It's important!" called Hondo, from behind the door
"Hondo, I'm dealing with these two hoodlums right now!" he answered annoyed.
The sound of the door opening allowed the two guilty parties to breath, at least there was a break before having to listen to their sentence.
"Boss, I'm sorry to interrupt, but I got a solution for our predicaments over here." he said as he pointed out at Chris and Street, "that will benefit you directly and... wont be so destructive of their careers."
"Well, now, why wouldn't I want to be destructive after being humiliated before the new Chief and his staff?"-he dropped the papers on his desk and leaned against his desk, crossing his arms in the process-"Who, by the way, was so eager to meet SWAT after we took down the cartel that threaten to blow up the city's Town Hall last week. The guy pretty much had a blank check for our department!"
"I understand, sir. But-" he paused taking a step forward -"I have an idea."
3:15pm, Community Center, the day before
"So, things 'round here working out, huh?"
"Yeah, things have been moving along great. We have different support groups that are using our Center to offer their services, and people are actually beginning to get interested. You just missed one for recovering addicts, going through rough custody battles." Nichelle answered
"Oh, wow! You def doing ya own thing up in here!" Hondo was legitimately impressed. Truth is with work and helping out his parents, he hadn't had that much time to visit and help out. It's been over two weeks since he stepped foot in the place.
The door swung open and Darryll came in, holding the arm of an old lady as he helped her in.
"Aww, you're such a gentlemen, aren't you?" the lady said softly
Darryll just smiled and blushed.
"Now, what's going on up in here? She too fine for you, boy!" scowled Hondo jokingly.
Darryll just smiled and the old lady greeted Nichelle very happily. She then extended her hand to Hondo "Afternoon, officer."
"Hey Hondo! This sweet lady right here is Miss Rita, " -they shook hands as Darryll explained- "she's one of the biggest reasons why I have my own business. She gives opportunities for kids, like me, who people trash and set aside. Not Miss Rita! She's a gentle soul!"
"Aww, I'm so proud of you, baby!" she said as she grabbed his face and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Officer, these children, they're my world!"
"You can call me Hondo." - he paused as he took her hand. -"That sounds 'bout right, Miss Rita. You really do your thing with em, huh?"
Darryll directed her to a nearby chair, which was set to the side of the entry hall. A small table, and two other chairs were to each side of the woman.
"Hondo, I met up with Miss Rita, and she tells me that she is worried about a couple of kids from the neighborhood." -he paused- "See? Miss Rita works with kids who want to be something. She helps kids after school. Sometimes, she even opens the doors to her house. That's how I developed my idea for the garage. I used to go to school only because of Miss Rita. She would give a couple of us space in her backyard or her porch, with some lemonade and cookies, and help us with our ideas. She even brought a business-like guy, who met with us a couple of times...you know? To guide us. Same guy that helped me write down the proposal of my business!"
