Hondo asked his teammates to step outside for a minute, he needed to consult with his boss. After what felt like an eternity, Hondo opened the door and the guilty parties were sentenced.
Hondo knew he needed to sweeten the deal, so he sacrificed himself and team in the process. Problem now was revealing to the other 3 about his concoction and what it meant for them. Tough.
He figured that if he made the issue a team problem, he could take some pressure off Chris and Street, and that if his master plan worked, everyone will benefit from it equally, not just those two. The only obstacle? Convincing Luca, Deacon and Tan. Oh, well, it was better to say sorry than ask for permission. He would throw the bone and see if Hicks would bite. If he did, then figure out a way to sell it to the others. He hoped with some beers and pizza it will do.
Turned out Hicks needed some work. Hondo used his best rhetoric and tactics to convince him, but it took a bit more than he bargained for. He would know soon enough if it was worth it.
As soon as all three left Hicks' office, Hondo was on his phone with Nichelle.
7:25am, next Saturday, Community Center
Chris couldn't believe it. She was so mad, she could kill Street if it was legal. As quiet as the last weeks had been, this past week it seemed every criminal in LA decided to break the law at the same time. They had extended shifts 4 out of the 5 days, and that spare one was borderline extra shift as well. She had ran for her life, jumped off a bridge, followed pursuit of a suspect down a river stream; was shot at in the side of her left arm (which still hurt even if had been a scratch!); got her ass kicked by three guys before the others could come for her help, and tons of stuff that she didn't even remember (or was it that she wanted to forget?)Truth is everything hurt like hell, her throat was sore, she wanted like 5 shots of pure Tequila with a couple of slices of lemon and some salt, and she just...looked like hell. She tried to hide behind her brownline sunglasses, the ones she bought herself for Christmas, yet the sleepy eyes, dark circles and hanging eyelids wouldn't cooperate. She really needed the day off!
Speaking of the devil himself, Street arrived. He parked his bike just in front of Chris, in the parking lot left of the Center. He took his time removing his helmet and getting off. He seemed to be in slow motion.
"Hey you!" he greeted her with a tired look
"Remind me to kill you after today, ok?"
"C'mon Chris, I'm exhausted too. At least you got scrapped in the arm, two shots got me all bruised up in both rib cages! Ow" he said as he still felt the pain in his body
"This is exactly why chilling for one more hour after everyone had called it a night last Sunday was a bad idea, Street! Told you we needed to pack and stuff, but... no!" she was so pissed, she kept slamming doors in her car. First the driver's side, then the back to remove some bags with stuff for the kids, and then the passenger's to remove her backpack.
"Well, it's not like you put up much of a fight anyway!" he shot out, with a teasing grin
One hour later. The white van arrived next to Chris' car in the lot. The sound of kids talking and loud music filled up most of the space, which was still quiet even with a couple of stores starting to open. Nichelle watched as 6 teenagers came out and approached the entrance of her place. She was excited to be able to help Miss Rita, who came in just after the kids.
Nichelle could recognize them easily, as Miss Rita had briefed her on each one just days before, when they both planned this day. Nichelle remembered just how excited Miss Rita was when she told her all about Hondo's plan to do a SWAT Day for the kids. Miss Rita was confident she could convince the teens to meet with her early if it meant anything SWAT. Hondo promised a full hands on experience, one that the kids will love but also made them get back to the right track.
