Right after the smoke cleared, Deacon and Hondo realized their kids were nowhere to be seen. Both yelled their names, but nothing. Three perps appeared out of nowhere and began shooting to them. In a last minute call, they decided to go after the three perps that headed to the alley, hoping that in the process they would find the kids.
The alley stretched some 90 feet long, 35 ft wide. It hosted trash bins, wooden planks and other rubbish. The officers, with guns in hand, ran after the perps and suddenly found themselves in an intense chase.
"Perpetrators heading East through an alley, towards East Street. Two off duty officers in pursuit! Three more, ten feet behind" called the chopper's pilot
"STOP!" "LAPD" yelled Deacon and Hondo to deaf ears. Suddenly, the three guys were impacted by big rolling trash cans, that came at full force, one from each side of the alley. All three stumbled to the ground, and since all had their pants sagging almost to half of their thighs, getting up was no easy task. Unfortunately for them, those seconds until they gained balance were just enough for Deacon and Hondo to surround them.
"STAY DOWN!" Hondo called, as both officers pointed their guns to them.
Three of Rocker's squad came running and to their delight, only needed to cuff the robbers. As the officers approached, both Deacon and Hondo called each others' attention, as if they had rehearsed it, and nodded. D'Andre rose from the bin behind Deacon, as Marv moved towards Hondo, coming from the bushes in the back wall.
As the officers apprehended the bandits, Hondo and Deacon turned around to find their young recruits.
"Good job, 10 David."
"Nicely done, 13 David!"
The kids approached each officer and shared a fist pump. Then, got together and completed a handshake too complicated for Hondo and Deacon to figure out. Both older men just smiled.
The crashing of the bikes and van, the smoke and the shots and the chaos created by the police sirens in full pursuit made for a perfect madness. The SWAT officers all separated, so Leyla and Rubio were completely lost. The smoke made it impossible for them to locate their SWAT officers, who were yelling their names. Amid all the chaos, Rubio grabbed Leyla's hand and headed to the other sidewalk, where he planned to hid behind the red Toyota car parked just seven feet from them. As he guided her, the car that was behind the van crashed into the Toyota, sending the vehicle towards the sidewalk, crashing into the light pole. The impact scared the teens, who now felt trapped between the smoke and the crashing van, which now was upside down almost to the middle of the street. The car crashing next to them sparked another big cloud of dark smoke.
Leyla screamed in fear, and Rubio freaked out. He felt his lungs collapsed and his legs wobbled. "What do we do, Leyla?" Leyla moved away from him facing the smoke off the van, while he stared at the smoke in front of the Toyota.
"I have no idea" She said loudly, as they heard some chirping coming from the car that just crashed. The sund of electrical cables coming in contact for a possible combustion! They got somewhat closer to the car and noticed the passenger took most of the impact, and seemed dead. Problem was the driver's door swung open and a man showed a gun towards them.
"You better stop your screaming now! Aint no way I'm leaving you alive to testify! " he demanded, as he opened the back door and took out a black duffel bag. The two teenagers froze, as they heard footsteps behind them. Out of panic, Leyla grabbed Rubio's hand and yelled "RUN!" The man with the bag went after them, as they turned the corner to the right.
"Let's go to the park! Open space!" Rubio yelled
They could hear and sense a lot of running behind them but panic and adrenaline took over their sense. Shots were fired. They didn't even look back. Their only instinct was to survive!
