Amanda Alexander
By the time I was done emptying what felt like the last ounce of life out of my body, I was completely drained. My stomach had finally settled. All I wanted was to crawl into bed and let sleep take over. The moment my head hit the pillow, I was out.
Somewhere in the comfort of sleep, the distant ringing of my phone barely managed to break through.
"Hello?" I mumbled groggily, bringing the phone to my ear while my eyes remained shut, still heavy with sleep.
I had no idea who it was, but my mind couldn't focus enough to care at that moment.
"Hey, girl! It's Anisha!"
Her voice came through, lively and upbeat.
"I heard you weren't feeling too well."
I let out a tired sigh, rubbing my eyes as I pushed myself up in bed.
"Yeah...that food I ate today fucked me up."
"Damn." She laughed sympathetically. "Well, a couple drinks should fix that. I'm coming to pick you up, so just send me your location."
I blinked, the haze of sleep beginning to lift. My stomach had finally settled, and the thought of free food and, even better, free drinks was almost impossible to resist. Going out after everything earlier probably wasn't my smartest idea, but who was I to turn down an offer like that? Besides, I'd just be more mindful of what I ate and drank this time.
"Alright, give me twenty minutes to get ready," I said.
"Perfect. Don't keep me waiting."
The call ended, and I sent her my location before dragging myself out of bed.
I stumbled into the shower, letting the warm water rinse away the last traces of exhaustion. By the time I stepped out, I felt like my self again. After brushing my teeth, I stood in front of my closet, scanning the rows of clothes for something to wear.
I sighed to myself, realizing I was in serious need of a shopping spree. The end of the month couldn't come soon enough because these clothes were starting to feel limiting. My fingers brushed over the fabric of a tan corset top, and a thought popped into my mind. I paired it with my pair of low-waisted jeans, and slipped on my tan heels.
I quickly applied a soft, natural beat. Nothing too heavy. It was just enough to give my skin a healthy glow. After styling my wig bone-straight with a clean middle part, I finished everything off with a spritz of floral perfume.
I couldn't help but smile at my reflection for a moment. I felt ready, ready to get out, ready to forget the chaos of the day, and to have a bit of fun.
I killed time scrolling through my phone until a notification popped up that Anisha was outside. Grabbing my nude shoulder bag, I headed out. A part of me was still in a daze, but this felt like the perfect distraction. An escape from the stress and the pain of the day.
I slid into the passenger seat of a white Audi A5, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. This bitch had money. An Audi? In Vincy? The gas alone would probably bankrupt me, let alone the insurance and servicing. Though here she was, effortlessly cruising in style.
"This is a nice ass car," I said, chuckling. "I wouldn't even be able to maintain it."
She glanced at me as she drove off, and her eyes sparkled with a playful gleam. I swore anything she wore just looked damn good. If I was into women, I probably would've fell in love with her.
