Mikey's POV
After things have calmed down, me and Megumi are cuddled up together in bed as I was telling stories about me and Y/n.
"Papa, you said that mom is also weird. How so?" Megumi asked, her eyes filled with interest. I chuckled and leaned back, staring at a random corner as I recalled one particular moment when we were still younger.
"There was one time when we were still in middle school. I have a fight with my best friend because one of our friends got jailed and I wanted to get him out but he opposed me so of course, I was mad but you're mom heard about it and came to me that time..." I said, letting out a small chuckle as I remembered that time like it was yesterday.
~ Flashback ~
I was by the park, on top of the monkey bars, getting some air to cool myself down. Thought that this would end Toman since me and Ken-chin have a fight.
I want to bail Pah-chin out but he said that we need to respect his decision. I know that but I don't want more of my friend to end up in jail.
"You look so serious that your eyebrows are almost connected." A girl's voice appeared from behind, surprising me and almost making me lose balance but the girl quickly held my shoulder and helped me balance.
She was wearing a loose white shirt and skinny black jeans, her hair tied in a high ponytail. A jacket tied around her waist and she wore sneakers. Some would say she looks boyish but only people close to her knew why she dresses like that.
"Oops, sorry for scaring you." She said and chuckled playfully.
"I wasn't scared, I was just surprised." I said as she sat beside me.
"Same thing" She teased.
"What brought you here, Y/n-chin? I thought you and your dad are practicing." I asked.
Her adoptive father is the police officer that handled her case and put her biological father in jail for his crimes. Since they didn't have a child of their own, they decided to help Y/n. He teaches her self-defense and told me that he even taught her how to use a gun from time to time.
"You" She said as she was staring off the playgrounds.
"Huh?"
"You brought me here. There's been a lot of fuzz lately. Something about Toman splitting to two." She said.
"It's nothing" I said. She sighed and handed me a paper bag that has my favorite snack in it.
"C'mon, why are you so secretive. Just tell me what's wrong and I'll give you this. If you don't want to then I'll just go to Draken and ask him myself." She said and starts to climb down but I held her arm and gave in and told her everything that happened.
"I see, so that's what happened, huh? But I'm going to agree with Draken on this one." She said and I quickly frowned and stayed silent while eating the Taiyaki she gave.
"I'm not taking his side over you, okay? I just agree with what he said. Even if Pah was manipulated, it was his decision to turn himself in. That's not an easy thing to do so I'm impressed." She said
"But it wasn't his fault, Y/n. Moebius pushed him to make that decision." I said. She sighed and slung her arm around my neck.
"That's not the point here, Manjiro. I'm not saying that Moebius did nothing wrong but Pah had other choices too he took that route and now he's taking responsibility for it. Can't you see? He wants to fix his mess on his own so if you bailed him out now, how would he feel about that? He would say he's thankful but deep down, he'll be guilty of easily getting away from what he did." She said while I still ate in silence.
She sighed again and began to untie her hair and let the tip of her index fingers connect as her thumb points upward. I looked at her with confusion as she cleared her throat and looked at me with puppy dog eyes.
"Please, Manjiro t-this isn't you. uwu" She said in a cute high-pitched voice and there was just silence while I stared at her blushing face, still trying to process what she said.
I turned around and covered the lower part of my face. I was blushing about how cute and funny that was at the same time since it's unusual for her to do that.
"Nevermind" She said and when I turned back around she was walking away so I chased her while trying not to laugh but failed when I saw how red her face was out of embarrassment.
"STOP LAUGHING!" She exclaimed and walked past me but I caught up to her.
"Why did you do that?" I asked and teased her by pinching her cheek.
"To convince you, of course, you and Draken should make up already since you're fighting over basically nothing at all." She said with her arms crossed.
"Well I'm not convinced, do it again." I teased and she walked away so I ran after her again.
~ End of Flashback ~
Megumi chuckled after I told her about it.
"But did mama manage to convince papa?" She asked.
"She already did before she even tried to. I just stayed silent because I was thinking about how I'll make up with my friend." I said and ruffled her hair.
"Can you tell me more about mama?" She asked and I lightly pinched her nose.
"Maybe next time. I still have some work to do and it's almost time for you to sleep." I said and tucked her into bed.
"Papa, I'm not yet sleepy." She said.
"How about I hum a song? Although I'm not much of a singer like your mother." I asked and she happily nodded.
Gently caressing her hair and taking in a deep breath, recalling the tune that Y/n would always hum.
"Hmm♪ hm, hmm♪ hmmm♪" Humming in a tone that matches my voice, I tried to hum as she does but I knew I won't even be close to her level.
After putting her to sleep, I made my way back to the office and it was unusually noisy from the outside.
As soon as I entered they settled down and Koko approached.
"Boss, we are currently tracking Kaito's whereabouts. Earlier, I was able to track his new account and it says that he's here in Japan." He said and showed me a map on the tablet.
He's in Miyagi
"Kakucho and Sanzu, you two go and bring him here, alive." I said and they nodded, quickly taking action.
"Where are Takeomi and Mochi?" I asked.
"They're out of the county to investigate the place where Ran and Rindou got injured again." Koko said.
"And Rindou?"
"He's in touch with the two and is also currently trying to figure out where Akihiko's right-hand man is." He replied as I made my way towards the glass window.
Staring out to the night view, brows slightly scrunched together. I took something out of my pocket and looked at the snowflake necklace that reminded me of Y/n.
Clenching it lightly and placing it on my chest, mentally making a promise and hoping for her to come back to me as well before the first day of snow comes once again.
