For some reason, he had come to your house, babbling about something always going wrong and how people abandon him, even those who he cares about.

"No one ever stays, no one ever cares about me." Jason choked out, and you reached out to him, but he just flinched away. "Don't act like you'd care either."

You sighed and shook your head. "Jason, I do care. That's why I gave you my address, you can always come here."

"No, you don't. You're lying."

"I'm not lying. Jason-" you took a step towards him again, but he raised his hand and stopped you.

"Please, make it stop... don't give me a reason to trust. You'll just leave like everyone else in the end."

"I won't. I promise I won't. I know people have disappointed you and how it feels like the world is beating you down, but it's going to get better." you tried to reassure him, but he just shook his head and turned around, making his leave. You were going to stop him at first, but restrained yourself as you called behind him, "Call me if you need someone to talk to, ok?"

He didn't answer, and you watched as he walked across the road, hands in his pockets. He needed time to think, and you could just hope he'd appear behind your door soon again. It would probably be stupid to let him go alone in that state, confused and messed up, but you weren't sure if there was anything else you could have done. He didn't want you to follow you, and he could disappear from you faster than light goes out. But that didn't mean you wouldn't need to try, you thought as you quickly put your shoes on and grabbed your coat.

You wouldn't let Jason be alone. You would prove to him that you weren't willing to abandon him.
