(I legit messed up the time on Bleeding Kansas, TWICE. Pretty embarrassing. If you go back to that chapter, i revised it, well, the end. Yea, it didn't start in 1846, or in 1861 (which is legit when the actual civil war started jdjskhjfkw). 1855-1859 is when it happened, i got that date from history.com, but this is why you don't trust a fanfiction and do your own research lmaoooo)

It took little time for the southern European to start reading, though he refused to look up at anybody while he did so. Many found this odd, but listened nonetheless, semi-curious while still slightly annoyed at the absent superpower from the previous entry.
1857
I'm back east, and luckily Mattie hasn't torn me to shreds yet, but honestly, that's the least of my concerns. He has been keeping distance though, as i think about it... Whatever, not the problem.
The south is being a pain, I'll explain. So, remember back when I headed west and fought with Mexico and gained a huge chunk of land? Alright well, things are really messy. Texas is joining the south in being a pain, along with the amount of land i got from Mexico was, as much as it was a physical battleground, it is now a political battleground. The north and south are really angry now, and the south is saying if the north doesn't accept the terms they've given, to be able to spread slavery to the west, they will flat out leave the union, which obviously isn't what i want, BEING the union.
The north and Congress are trying to settle everything down, and have come up with a few compromises, which calmed everyone for a short while before it just came back but worse. That whole "Bleeding Kansas" thing also basically made everything a lot worse. So, the government didn't know if the territories would be slave or free states, and soon enough they settled on popular sovereignty, basically letting them vote for themselves and all that. Thing is, popular sovereignty wouldn't work if northerners and southerners are just fleeing there to ruin votes and also maiming each other in the process. Which was pretty painful, might i add.
On that topic, the south really is trying it's hardest to seem as different from the rest of the country as possible. All because of slavery, which really makes them different enough. They don't like industrialization, sticking to agriculture instead and relying on one thing and one thing only: cotton, when everyone knows that probably is a really bad idea.
Whatever the case, they became dependent, and now there's no turning back, their economy is reliant on slave labor. I see a lot of southern senators say that it's giving them the most money or whatever, so why give it up? Also, senators are starting to actually attack each other, Mississippi's pulled out a revolver on Missouri's, New York's senator calmed it by ripping the revolver away and locking it up. Not soon after, South Carolina's attacks Massachusettes', and things got bad.
Things are also just painful in general. That was hurtful enough, but not the only thing. Bleeding Kansas is still a massive pain, the assaults were the worst part. The south really doesn't like me, the north is sticking close to what i say though, and that is good but also pretty bad.
There's just a lot of unrest, and it's really stressful and worrying. South Carolina threatened to secede a while ago over tariffs, but the army stopped that with nullification stuff. The south as a whole, South Carolina taking the front lines again, are threatening to secede once again, which i don't need to say how bad that is. It can literally be my downfall, it can kill me.
Everything's really... Just not good. Might not write much, I'll try to record it though, but I'm not too sure. If it's not bad, i can think I'd record it. If it is, well... Then, maybe not. Maybe I'll die and not be able to, or maybe it'll just be a long time.
