The day the elemental alliance was formed was a great moment in history. Friendships and families would be forged and connections would be made that would last for centuries.
There were two of them though that had always shared a much deeper connection than the rest.
It didn't quite make sense to the rest of the them, Lightning being so happy and excited all the time and her mentor being Ice. Ice was the opposite of lightning he was quiet, cold, and distant. None of them had ever seen him smile... except for her supposedly.
They had always wondered what there was between the two that a connection this strong had forged between them but they were inseparable.
Everyone had their own story in the elemental alliance but the one between Ice and Lightning was long and unknown to anyone but them. No one knew the full story of how someone so bright and energetic who was constantly bouncing off the walls had ended up being around someone who barely talked and could freeze you with just a look but they could only imagine...

Libber was six when she had met the coolest person in the entire world.
She didn't like her school, the boys there were mean and they laughed at her for not having parents like the rest of them and pulled her hair all the time. She got into fights a lot... A lot. So when she ran it wasn't really anyone's surprise.
She did feel bad for leaving her one friend behind but Lily was super nice and so she'd totally make a new friend super easy.
That wasn't her main issue though.
Her main issue was that right now it was getting dark. And it was getting cold. And she had left her only jacket back in her cubby.
Oh and she was also lost, she was very, very lost.
She's not sure where she is but it's very cold and very dark. She shoulda grabbed her jacket cause it's really cold out here she thinks. Plus it's still pretty snowy outside too she misses the city. It was always warm in the city all year long it was warm and nice. And it wasn't cold and dark and she wasn't lost without her coat.
The longer she walks the colder it gets she was entertaining herself with her puffs of steam as her warm breath met the freezing air but now all she can think of is her fingers.
Her cold little fingers that look red as cherries now. Maybe she shoulda grabbed her mittens too but those were in her coat and now she was just so cold and tired...
She really wants to take a nap that sounds nice a nice warm nap. She's so tired and cold and a nap would feel so good.
But she doesn't slow down or stop walking as she thinks about it. Something deep in the back of her mind was keeping her going, keeping her moving. Perhaps it was a small buried survival instinct. Because if any adult were to see her now they would've known, had the little girl stopped for the nap she so desperately wanted she would not have woken up. Frozen to death, skin blue like the color of the shirt she wore.
So she kept walking. Her feet hurt and her fingers had gone numb. And suddenly her foot had caught something that sent her colliding with harsh stone face first.
There was an odd taste in her mouth, metallic and coppery like pennies. She spat into the dark as her mouth filled with the taste unknowing of what had happened. The only thing that ran through her mind now was that she hadn't tripped over just any old rock. It was a small step. Part of a staircase.
Libber may not have been always the smartest according to people but she knew what stairs meant. Stairs meant people and people meant warmth and that she could take a nap so with new found energy she climbed the steps one by one getting colder and colder as she went. She must be pretty high up if it's this cold and windy she thinks, who would make their home so high up? Did they like walking a bajillion stairs every day?
