Alex's POV
9:00 AM
Dane, Kim, Jess and Omar are travelling in Dane's car because the car seat is already set up in it.
Tricia is driving her car because she is on call, Ethan volunteered to travel with her. They both think that we're all oblivious to the fact that they're fucking.
Jubba, Leah, Nya and I are travelling in Nya's Benz. She finds the back seat more comfortable than the other cars. I'm in the back with her, Jubba is driving, and Leah is sitting upfront.
"Switch it up," I say to Jubba and our eyes connect in the mirror. So, he's aware of it too, he probably noticed before I did.
We take several backroads before ending up on Mandela. Nya is watching me; she senses that something is wrong. I take her hand and sign into it, something that we've been practising for a while now.
She nods and remains quiet; I couldn't have gotten a better partner. Dane is travelling behind us and as we enter the toll, he calls me.
Dane: Yeah?
Me: Yah
Dane: Kool
Tricia and Ethan left out before us so they should be a good way ahead. I don't have to worry about them.
The drive to St. Ann is incident-free and I'm happy that Shanya didn't get sick. We go straight to the church, and I start laughing as soon as I step out of the car.
"Mom, Anthony, unu no have nothing fi do?" I ask as I walk up to them in the churchyard.
I hug my mom then Anthony and watch as my grandma comes out of the church.
"It's family Sunday, remember she's my mother," Mom says and I grin as I hug grandma.
"Where's my beautiful Shanya?" Grandma asks and I laugh and roll my eyes.
"Nice to see you too Grandma, I'm fine thanks," I tease, and she slaps my hand.
"She's in the car, let me go get her," I say and walk over to the car.
"Come Nya, since nobody cares about me anymore since the day I married you," I joke, and she takes my hand and allows me to help her out of the car.
"Mr. Holt, for the record, I married you and they all loved me from before we got married," she grins and kisses me. Leah and Jubba start laughing and I shake my head.
We do the pleasantries, then we take our seats in the church. Grandma has us all seated close to the front, but Jubba is sitting at the extreme back close to the door. Leah wanted to sit with him, but he told her no, I hope she doesn't take it personally.
Grandma tricked me, I didn't have to come here this early, the performances aren't until after the service. When I called her out on it all she did was laugh.
The service wasn't bad at all, the message was very empowering, I could start visiting regularly. Aunty G would love that, she keeps bothering me about going to church.
The main service ends at minutes to two and then there's a short break before the concert that is scheduled to start at two.
"Come eat some of the crackers and ginger jam that I brought for you," Leah says to Shan, and they get up and exit the church.
I walk out behind them and go stand at the end of the yard with Jubba; Dane and Omar come over and stand with us.
"A who dat?" Omar asks.
