CHRISTMAS EVE

Once we're all done placing our bags and suitcases in the car I take one last glance at the cabin, the glass shattered windows and holes in the door, I shut my eyes and take a deep breath. I shut the memory out, enough hurt. I shut the door of the boot and proceeded to start the engine.

Niklaus walks out carrying one last bag and I fold my arms in immediate disapproval, "have you run bloody mad?"

"What is it now Nadya?" He responds as I grab the bag from him and load it into the car.

"You can't carry heavy stuff, you'll rip your stitches!" I warn him and he laughs bringing me in for a hug. "It's not funny."

"I know love, I know." He muses brushing a curl of hair out of my face, "it's unnerving to me almost, how much you care, I- uh forgive me if I'm not conscious of myself I've never really had anyone care for me this way."

"Oh come on I'm sure your mother babied you enough for the first few years of your life?" I laughed placing both my hands on either side of his face but his gaze drifted away from me in reluctance. "Oh...oh I see, well regardless darling I care for you enough to make up for...well always!"

"For always?" He repeats almost as if he can't comprehend my words,

"Always," I assure him kissing his cheek and heat spreads upwards from his neck as he blushes. "My favourite boy."

"Okay enough being the only single person on this trip is becoming tedious, get a room all of you!" Sade complains tossing a fluffy pillow at us but Niklaus catches it.

"Jealousy is the bain of one's existence!" Niklaus calls out and Sade rolls her eyes in response,

"Jealousy in romance is like salt in food." Sade quotes and Niklaus holds her gaze for a moment and he appears slightly confused.

"What is it?" I ask him,

"That's funny, uh my uncle Ben says that all the time." Nik discloses and Sade shakes off his comment,

"Really?" She says clearing her throat, "what a coincidence."

"I don't believe in coincidences," Nik responds but I shift his attention back to me placing my hands on either side of his face.
