A random thought came to me in the lazy evenings of this lockdown..
When we meet someone for the first time, what are the first few questions we ask?
From What is your name? Where are you from? , it takes a good turn to What are your likes , dislikes or worse, Today the weather is so pleasant,na?But why don't we ever ask anyone what pronoun they wished to be addressed in? We always assume gender,na? But how? By their clothes? Accessories? Mannerisms? Voice?
But how can we be so sure?Shouldn't the second question you ask me should be about my pronoun? Imagine you are a male, and I address you as she, or vice versa? Won't you feel offended?
Shouldn't this question be a part of our day-to-day social life? Maybe then a good lot of people will understand the fluidity of gender, right?Enough of my rant. Hello there, what is your name? What pronoun should I address you in?
