3rd POV
Driving into town Rachel and Adam pass by the town coffee shop "Wave to Courtney" Rachel tells Adam as she gives the man a small wave. "Hey Adam, Rachel" the man calls out before Rachel could get too far. Stopping the car, Rachel turned her head to look at Courtney as he leaned against the passenger side door. "How's Tim. All better?" he asked, Rachel scoffed lightly before giving a fake smile "he's fine. Thanks" she told him, her tone bordering slightly on annoyed.
Courtney gave her a small nod before saying his goodbyes and walking back to the coffee shop. Rachel pursed her lips, as she put the track back in gear and continued on her way, "Tim had an attack last night. Last night. We can't even sneeze in this town without anyone knowing our business. Isn't that weird? I mean it's not normal. It's not." she rants keeping her eyes on the road.
Adam smiles over at her, chuckling softly before turning back to look out the window. The pair shortly pull up to Cooper's Hardware Store and quickly get to work. Rachel stands behind the register, while Adam works on restocking the shelves.
Everyone in town blissfully of the danger heads their way. Just outside of the town limit, Varek and his crew prepare. Loading their weapons and ensuring that they are fully loaded before slipping on their shades and starting up their bikes. A very familiar hawk flies by the town sign, shortly followed by the group on their bikes.
At the coffee shop, Courtney hears the roar of the engines and turns to spot the four newcomers driving by. Varek looks over at him briefly before turning his head back to the front, moving his jacket slightly to cover his gun. The for continue driving further into town before splitting three ways. Varek and Sonja continue forward, Zo going to the left, and the scarred man driving to the right.
Varek and Sonja continue for a while before parking their bikes, Varek takes his shades off as they both get off of their bikes. He shares a look with Sonja, as she pulls out her gun cocking it and splitting up from Varek. They walk for some time before Sonja heads off into an alley and Varek continues down the main street, passing the hardware store just as Rachel stands behind the counter filling out a crossword.
However, she quickly looks up and turns just after he has passed. She makes her way to the phone in the back of the store and calls the house. It rings but goes to voicemail shortly after "Hey, guys, it's me. Where are you? I thought you'd be here by now. It's getting late. Um...where are you?" she asks before ending the call and getting back to work. Not knowing that the trio were already making their way through town and getting ready to have a very interesting introduction to Huguenots' new visitors.
Alexia's POV
I was walking to the hardware store with Nana and Tim. I was a bit ahead of them but I could hear Tim badgering her with endless questions, mainly about the moon last night. I noticed how Nana's answers seemed to come out as if she was barely paying attention, I stopped walking and turned to face them and saw that her focus was very much elsewhere. I followed her eyes and noticed a hawk flying overhead. It was weird, but it wasn't like we hadn't seen hawks in Huguenot before. But something about the way this hawk kept flying around was suspicious, it flew around as if it was surveying us.
Turning my head down, after Tim asked another question "Tim, stop asking so many questions. It's getting late and we were supposed to be at the store a while ago." I told him that as he and Nana caught up to me, Tim and I both picked up on nana and how she was being quiet. We both looked over to her and saw that she was focused on something across the street, I noticed how her body stood stock still. I looked over and saw a man standing across the road on the opposite sidewalk, his eyes stayed solely on us. I gently pulled Tim over to stand next to me, and the man's eyes shifted over to the two of us. I looked back at nana to find her eyes still on the man.
"Nana" I whispered putting a hand on her shoulder, she snapped out of whatever daydream she was in and began to urge me and Tim across the street. However, the man began moving across the street on his side as well. He and Nana maintained eye contact until we all reached the middle. The mystery man turned his body completely toward us causing Nana to stop.
"All we want is the boy," he called over. My eyes widened slightly, it wasn't rocket science to know that he meant Tim. I picked up on movement to my right and turned to see nana pulling out a huge freaking gun out of her bag "What the fuck, Nana?!" I exclaimed pulling Tim behind me.
Nana pushed me slightly "Run" she commanded and I did not need to be told twice as I turned, pushing Timmy in front of me and running over just in time, as shots began firing, I heard nana groan but I was too focused on keeping Tim safe. I, thankfully, spotted Doak's mail truck and ran over to it. We ducked down just in time as a few bullets hit just above where we originally stood.
This was not how I planned to spend my day today. Shortly after hiding, Nana rushed behind the truck. I looked over to her and noticed a wound on her shoulder "Oh my God, Nana, you're hurt" I cried out. She shook her head "I'll be fine. I'm fine" she said trying to be reassuring, but I was not feeling that reassured. "What the hell is happening, Nana? Who the hell is that guy?" I asked her, my question went ignored as more shots rang out around us, immediately I bent down covering Tim with my body as glass from the windows rained down on us.
"Nana, stay down" I heard, I lifted my head and saw Doak just as he pulled a gun out of his mailbag and began shooting at someone. "Ok, does everyone in this town just carry guns on them?!?!" I exclaimed but was once again ignored. It was not long before I saw other members of the town rushing out with guns and begin shooting.
Nana turned to me and handed over her gun, I took it wide-eyed "What..?" I began but Nana interrupted "I'll explain later. Right now, learn to load a gun." she explained before she pulled out a second gun and began shooting again. I looked at her in disbelief before sharing a brief look with Tim, who shrugged at me with a scared look on his face. Sighing, I just got to work reloading the gun.
Once I was done I handed Nana the fully loaded gun and took the one she was using and began reloading that one. Soon, nana ducks for cover behind the truck, she turns to look at me and Tim "Head straight for the saddle shop. Stay there until I come for you" she instructed. I shook my head "Are you crazy? We're not going to leave you, Nana!" I cried
She yanked me close to her "Lexi, do as I say. Take your brother and Go!" she commanded pushing us over towards the shop. Grabbing Tim's hand, I quickly run over to the saddle shop, keeping him in front of me. "Keep going, keep going" I urged as I saw the shop. We headed towards the back of the shop and made our way inside. Tim's breathing was labored as I pulled him behind a counter underneath the window "Hey, look at me. We're going to be fine alright." I tell him, he nods but his breath is still labored.
I grab his hand and place it over my heart while placing my hand over his. "Follow my breathing. In. Out. In. Out. Good, good keep going." I instructed, and we continued the breathing exercise until his breathing calmed. Things were silent until I heard the door open and rushing footsteps. I put Tim behind me as we turned around only to find "Momma!" I whispered in relief as she ran over and pulled us both into a hug "Oh my God!" she exclaimed as she looked us over "Are you OK?" she asked
"No, not really," I answered a bit sarcastically, but mom kept her hold on us, and honestly it was something I needed at this moment. I let out a shocked gasp as mom quickly yanks Tim and me down to the ground with her, she places a hand over both of our mouths as we look out the window of the shop. Looking in is a man with long graying hair, it's apparent that he was working with the guy from earlier. I watch in horror as he walks closer to the store, placing his hand on the door and twisting the knob. Tim gasps loudly, causing the man to lean closer to the window to get a better look. We continued to keep our eyes on the door, holding our breaths waiting for him to walk off. I jumped slightly as I heard mom let out a muffled squeak, I turned slightly and saw Uncle Jonas. "Don't move until I tell you" he spoke quietly keeping his eyes on the door, "Now we need to get to my garage", he instructs. I look to mom for her decision, she hesitates for a moment before ushering me and Tim in front of her to follow after Uncle Jonas. We quietly snuck out of the shop and begin making our way to the gas station where Uncle Jonas' ran his garage.
