Hamdan Gillani

"We will remain in power, and we will serve this country till our last breath." Plastering a fake smile on her face, Samreen Gillani.

I sat in the front row, bored out of my mind, as I watched the stocks rising on my baby, StarLite, Pakistan's latest social media platform, which is rapidly growing in popularity. I smiled down at my phone screen, satisfied.

"I would like to introduce you all to my eldest daughter, Seerat." Samreen Gillani, also known as my Mama, held out her arm, and my eldest sister Seerat Gillani walked towards her, a huge smile on her face. "She will be trained by me, because she will eventually be a member of our Azaad Awam Party."

The crowd went wild and I resisted rolling my eyes. It was ironic that the party name, founded by my paternal grandfather, was called 'Azaaz Awam Party' (Free People Party), considering that ever since my mother had taken over, the people had hardly been free. My mother loved having a tight control over everything and everyone, and she was teaching Seerat Appi the same.

"I'm honoured to be a part of this wonderful party, dedicated to the people of the country, dedicated to serving all." My sister sounded as fake as my mother, but the people around us were falling for their acts... again.

I stood up, fed up of it all, and I saw my mother glare at me disapprovingly. Ignoring her, I walked out of the auditorium, where my mother was pretending to care about the needs of the community, despite always pocketing taxpayer money.

I knew well about her corruption, and I refused to support it. Since the day I'd found out, I'd surrendered everything provided to me by her money, and I had rented a flat after getting a small job. It was difficult, but at least it wasn't paid for using black money.

Even today, Mama had called me here under the pretext that the whole Gillani family needed to be present, but when I appeared here, I saw that only she was there, along with Seerat.

Family. I scoffed. Do they even know what a family is?

And where in the world was Sabeen?
