Previously on Empowered:

Nayab was very ill, and she, her mother and sister had been stuck in traffic caused by a political rally.

The guards had conveyed the message to Samreen Gillani, who had arranged for an air ambulance to be sent... but not to help Nayab; in fact, this was done to play a game with Hamdan. She's making him believe that the opposition had Nayab kidnapped. She's trying to incite the hateful fire of rage within him so that he becomes as ruthless as her in politics.

Some were indifferent: "It's just another political drama."

Some were sympathetic. "I will definitely vote for Azaad Awam Party. The kind of things poor Samreen's enemies would do against her! Kidnapping the pregnant Gillani bahu!"

Others were coming up with various conspiracy theories, whether right or wrong. "I bet the Gillanis planned this for sympathy votes during the elections."

But there was one person who seemed to have figured out the entire political game as soon as he heard about it: Shabeer Gillani.

And now, when he stepped into the AAP HQ after years, he forgot all formalities as he stepped in front of his ex-wife. "Where's Nayab?"

She looked up from the desk surprised. "I thought there was traffic around. How did you get here?"

"If you bother to come out of that conniving mind of yours, you would know that the traffic cleared up a long time ago." He said. "But, I repeat my question, where is Nayab?"

"We are trying to figure it out..."

"Don't give me that bulls**t, Samreen!" He snapped, his loud voice making her jump. "It took me years, but I can clearly see that invisible mask of evil that covers your face, even when nobody else does. Where is Nayab?"

She stood up and walked over to the door, closing it to prevent their voices floating out. "I don't like your accusing tone, Shabeer."

He stared at her silently, studying her expressions. She was a brilliant actress, and she could put on a great façade of humanity, but he knew her too well. It was impossible no to be familiar with a person's smallest characteristics, after spending decades married and after having three kids together. She didn't look away, with no sign of a liar's guilt reflected in her face or her eyes. That woman had probably murdered her own conscience a long time ago.

"The opposition took Nayab." She said, quietly. "And now Hamdan will make them pay." She looked almost proud of that fact.

"You lost control over Seerat, and now you're trying to make Hamdan like you." He shook his head. "You'll never succeed. His conscience far overpowers your evil, I have faith in that."

"This is about Nayab. I wouldn't be too reliant on his conscience right now, Shabeer." Giving a knowing smirk, she turned her back to him.

Hamdan

"The current party in power has the biggest reason to hate us." Mr Jamal told me. "Our party is gaining popularity rapidly, and they fear that we would overpower them in the upcoming elections. They are trying to weaken the party."

"By kidnapping my wife?" I growled out, leaning both hands on the table, my jaw clenched.

"You are the heir of the party. If they took away the woman you love, it would make you less able to focus on the party, and you'll start to neglect your duties, leading to a downfall of the popularity..." Mr Jamal explained.
