Hamdan

This wasn't the first time that Sabeen had managed to evade the guards, although it was not a common occurrence.

I headed to the Gillani mansion and found out from the guards that the windscreen of her car had been shattered earlier that day at her university.

"And she still managed to leave without any of you noticing?" I yelled at her guards. I dialled my younger sister's number, while shooting a deathly glare at the guards. "The only thing you people are good at guarding is your precious sleep." I looked towards the house, where Dado was standing in the doorway, tasbeeh in her hands, looking pale with anxiety. "Dado, please go and sit inside. I'm here. I'll handle it." The phone kept ringing, but there was no answer from Sabeen.

"I want to see Sabeen back here safely and soundly. And until she's here, I'm not going to rest." She shook her head.

And where was Mama in all this? She was calmly sitting inside the office, drinking tea.

Ya Allah, give me sabr. I ran a hand through my hair. Matricide is one of the biggest sins in the world. I need to remember that. But to see our mother act so nonchalant about the fact that her youngest child was missing was frustrating beyond words. However, this was nothing new. Sabeen was the one who had been the most deprived of maternal love. Seerat had been Mama's shadow, her little trainee, and I had been Mama's beloved only son. Sabeen had always craved for parental love, and even though Dado had loved us conditionally, it could not compensation the lack of love from her alive and well biological mother.

If anyone hurts my younger sister, I will kill them myself. I walked towards my car.

"Hamdan, where are you going?" Dado called out after me.

"I'm going to find Sabeen myself." I replied without turning back. I was not going to stay here uselessly. My sister could be in trouble. Before I started driving, I dialled Ashar's number. "Hey, bro, how do you feel about tracing someone?"

A FEW HOURS EARLIER

Sabeen

"Plotting and scheming as usual." I glared at my elder sister. "Always tricking me. Nothing new with you."

"Sabeen, hear me out. Hear him out." Seerat Appi reached for me.

I glared at the man who had let us down in the worst way possible. "I have enough family members in my life who don't give a crap about me. I don't need another one."

"Sabeen..." Appi sighed.

I turned to leave. I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't have trusted Seerat Appi.

"Sabeen, wait." His voice was almost pleading. I heard his footsteps come closer.

I stopped because a part of me wanted to hear him out. I turned to face him, holding out my hand in a 'stop' gesture. I observed him silently for a few seconds. Hamdan Bhai had a strong resemblance to him, that was clear, and even Appi in many ways. Dado often said that my facial features were like him, apart from my eyes, which were like Mama's.

His gaze on me was soft as he stepped closer, cautiously. "Sabeen. Ma Sha Allah, you're so grown up."

"Yes, people tend to do that over the years." I muttered, sarcastically. "Pity you weren't around for it."
