AMANDA "ASIA" ALEXANDER

I was extremely late so I just headed straight to the classroom. Majority of the students were gathered outside the room. Who wasn't arguing over some football match, eating food or enthralled in their own shenanigans. They didn't even have the decency to acknowledge my presence as I walked past. I had no energy to persuade them into joining the class, whoever wanted to learn would show their interest. My hangover was still very much prevalent, but I managed to compose myself. Reminder to only get drunk when I don't got work the next day! I made my way towards the desk and plopped myself down into the chair. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. I glanced up to see who all was present, I could have counted them all on my ten fingers. Out of the thirty five students only ten were seated before me.

"I'm sorry I couldn't make it in earlier, but with the last twenty five minutes remaining I just want to give you an introduction into our next topic. We will be focusing on Financial Markets", I said as I brought myself to my feet and walked across to the center of the room.

"Your peers seem unfazed by what is happening in this room, but I'm happy to see the few of you showing your interest. It would be witless of you to share what we have discussed today with them," I further stated.

They stared back at me without uttering any words. I proceeded to begin my lesson.

"You may wonder what is a Financial Market. A Financial Market is basically any place or system that provides buyers and sellers the means to trade financial instruments, including bonds, equities, the various international currencies, and derivatives..." I said. The information rolled off my tongue effortlessly, as it was embedded into my memory from countless nights I stayed up burning that midnight oil. Not to mention the constant nagging from Mr. Sookoo who always seemed to point out my errors during recitals in class. He is quite a character, but his mentorship is unmatched! I made it my promise to visit him at least once again before he retired. But we'll see about that.

I continued the lesson plan and paused momentarily once questions were asked by the students. It brought me such joy to see how keen they were in clarifying any misjudgements. About ten minutes later, it was time for the dismissal of class.

"I will see you guys tomorr," I trailed as I was cut off by a student.

"Miss, yuh kno say we nah hah no class until monday right? Some minister ah bury tomorrow an friday ah one holiday," she said as she rose from her seat.

"Oh damn! I honestly had no clue. Thanks for letting me know though. I guess we'll continue this on Monday. Stay safe this weekend! Don't do anything I won't do," I yelled as they went through the doors.

With such a long weekend ahead, I wondered how I could let the time pass. I headed to the office to clock for my shift and put away my personal items. It was only two lecturers inside so I quickly greeted them and headed to my desk. There was no need for me to indulge in a conversation with them. After all it's better to keep coworkers at a certain distance than letting them know too much about you. Keep them guessing!

I looked over at Anisha's desk and it was neatly organized, nothing ever seemed out of place. Her aqua blazer was slung over the back of the chair. It was a indication that she was here. For a second I thought she wasn't in for the day. I needed to remember to ask her if she had any clue what I did with my phone.

The evening dragged on much longer than I expected. It felt as though time was at a stand still. Although I had my classes, every time I looked at the clock it's like the hands weren't moving an inch. Once again, most of my students didn't care to attend class. I guess everyone was in prime for the events that they were going to partake in on that long weekend. As soon as it finally stroke four o'clock, I was turning over the key in my engine. I had to make a quick stop at Massy supermarket to gather a few groceries.
