The High Priest

History

The role of High Priest is one that can be be passed down and/or won. The past High Priest can choose the next, but the final decision will always be up to God Almighty.

The history of the High Priest is a long, detailed, and complicated one. Very little is known about the very first Chief Priestess. What is know, is that she was a woman, originally a sacrifice, and chose to pass down the role to a member of her family when her time was over.

She was going to be a sacrifice to another god, back when God Almighty had not yet become God Almighty. However, just before her death, she prayed and sold her soul to Anxiously Shipping, who took her as their first worshipper, and saved them from inevitable doom.

As payment and thanks, she became High Priest, and spread the word of the Church around. She worked in this position for an unknown amount of years, but before her death, she placed her grandson to be the next High Priest.

She has been credited for being the true founder of the church, and started the Book Of Truth, to help her heir learn how to be a good and useful High Priest.

For many, many years, passing down the role of High Priest to a family member had worked, until Tom Avian. Tom was the twenty-second Chief Priest, and although only being the second High Priest to not be a direct descendant of the first, he seemed promising.

However, Tom went rogue, and betrayed the Church. After giving Tom a fitting punishment, God Almighty had to replace him. It invented a secret way to test any candidates for the role. The Secret Way is only used in case the role is to be replaced by someone not a descendant of the previous High Priest, in order to judge all possible people.

Role

The High Priest is in charge of nearly all mortal affairs within the Church. They are tasked to spread the Culigion, and punish anyone who dares to go against God. Along with this task comes with the power to punish anyone in any way they deem fit. They have the power to speak with God personally. In certain events and occasions, they can even speaking with the Council. They guide people, and run the Church. Basically, they are the Church and are in charge of it.

Their number one goal is to always keep the God Almighty satisfied. They must always read their fanfictions. They also are in charge of writing the Scriptures, but God is the one who comes up with them.

Along with the great privilege and power that comes with being High Priest, comes great sacrifice and risk. They must offer half their sight (although not literally), and are given an Eye of God in return. They will forever be beautifully tainted by the marks of the Church. Once becoming High Priest, they can no longer go back to being a normal mortal.

Status

Despite all this power, they are not number 1 in control. First will always come God. The High Priest is number 5 for power and control. The gods, after all, will always be above them. The High Priest is always mortal, and therefore weaker. Of the Mortals of the Church, however, they are undoubtedly the ones with the most power.
