You'd never expect how much Nightmare trusts his people, his boys were given free reign by now. As long as the task was done with minimal injuries from both sides, then it was praised.
However, even with such easy tasks; mistakes happen. They'd gotten too relaxed.
It was as simple as ever, Nightmare wanted negativity throughout the universe; Horror, Dust and Killer were all tasked with such a simple job. Horror had taken the hot lands, instantly starting off their task. The other two had teamed together, Killer had started an argument and it spiralled further.
——
Dust was tired. He'd always had that wiry laziness, a crooked stance and wobbled walk but that was far from his true strength, usually. He was tired anyhow. He was always tired around Killer, a turmoil of emotions that carried on, stole his energy and focus.
Killer was the opposite, he seemed to be doing a sadistic version of a skip. His grin was so bright Dust couldn't look away, he couldn't stop thinking of how Killer's sockets seemed to have more depth right now. It was almost cute.
"Common! Slowpoke." Killer urged, "I wanna get home, maybe play some games?" It seemed he wasn't even talking to Dust, which rubbed on him slightly.
"He's just tormenting you, you'll never truly mean anything to him; let alone the others, you should've stayed with me." Papyrus. The one person Dust will listen to, no matter the situation. No matter the lies.
But Dust had to question, why did it matter so much to mean something to Killer? He'd never thought about it to anyone but Nightmare - that was different though, to prove his use, to prove his loyalty, to prove his sense of being - so why did Killer had to have that?
That same thing made the back of his neck tingle, his face heat up. Maybe he was angry at Killer? That made sense to him.
So with a grumble, Dust glared, "I don't care." He brushed passed Killer's shoulder, the contact making Dust's soul beat. Beat with rage. Definitely.
Killer snickered, "aw, poor Dustbowl! Are ya upset ya were woken up?" Dust shuddered, shaking his head before carrying on.
He tried to pay no mind to Killer, especially when Killer said he was going to dive head first into a fight between Flowery and himself. Killer was usually very playful and reckless.
Dust carried on, until he heard a familiar scream. It was faint, Dust hadn't realised how far he had actually gotten from his partner. With a newfound energy, adrenaline pumped Dust into a sprint.
He was quick to see Killer underneath a pile of rubble, his own knife buried in his ribcage seriously too close to his soul. Although Killer's expression was more of pain than fear.
"Killer?!" Dust yelled, rushing over to him and watching as Killer's head turned to Dust. The plant was squished underneath the rumble as well.
Killer gave off a quiet laugh, "hah ow, seems I misjudged an attack." Dust tried lifting a large piece of rock and mud, it was too heavy and slippery for Dust to actually get purchase. His magic didn't specialise in matter, only life, only souls.
A small whimper exited Killer's mouth, "I think my leg is squished." It seemed weaker than Dust had heard Killer, this was not Dust's situation. He couldn't help.
He felt so useless, he's going to loose Killer. He's going to be killed and Dust wouldn't be able to help. He's going to loose Killer.
If anyone had asked, Dust was not crying; it was the.. well dust in the air, the specks of muck that covered his clothes and blocked his eyesight from further than Killer - if he were to look away.
