The girl writes a letter of love to her boyfriend;

With a lot of heart,
And a little bit of soul.

Tears wiped across her smile.
Butterflies swirling for miles.

The girl writes a letter of hate to her ex-friend;

With a lot of anger,
And a little bit of disgust.

Fingers are ripping at her eyes.
Boyfriend finally says goodbye.

The girl writes a letter of hurt to her lost friend;

With a lot of feeling,
And a little bit of sympathy.

Emotions she hadn't felt in ages.
Bleeding right through the pages.

And all the while,
The letters were never shared.

And all the while,
The boy never did seem to care.

And once the while,
The boy came up and said:

"And you, girl, write letters of promise—
With a lot of, well, remorse.

And you, girl, write letters of dreadfulness—
With a lot of, well, surmise."

Fears now resurrected,
She then blurted this:

"These letters are for you,
And I just needed to say—

I love you, I do,
But I know now that I can't make you stay."
