DITCHING HER SECURITY GUARDS was like child's play for the girl. She had wanted to see the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator turn on but her father had forbid her from stepping foot anywhere near it. He claimed it would be a circus and he didn't want his only child to get caught around it.
But Aurora King loved to play by her own rules. So that's how she stumbled into the Central City Police precinct.
One of her long-time friends, Barry Allen, was a CSI for the CCPD. They had been family friends since the girl was born. He was going to watch the Particle Accelerator turn on so she wanted to sneak in with him and Iris.
Aurora raced up the steps of the precinct. None of the officers batted an eye when they noticed the girl. She had always run around the precinct when Joe West was watching her. Joe West was Barry's adoptive father since his own father was in prison. Joe was also Iris's father.
The twelve-year-old girl stumbled into the CSI lab to find Barry standing by his desk watching the news. The reporter was covering the Particle Accelerator news. It hadn't been cut on yet but it was about to.
"Barry!" The girl practically slid to a halt once she entered the lab. "If we leave now we might still make it in time to see it turn on in person." She huffed out a few breaths. She did climb the steps two at a time.
The older man turned around with a shocked expression. "You're supposed to be at home. How did you even get over here?" Barry shook his head at the girl. He shouldn't even be surprised. Even though she was only twelve she loved to play by her own rules.
"I had called for the car service. I pretended to be Vivian." she smiled. Vivian was her father's loyal assistant. Had been since Aurora was a toddler.
Barry gestured for Aurora to sit in the desk chair. She reluctantly shrugged her raincoat off as she made her way to the chair.
"We aren't going out there in this weather. Your father will kill you already for sneaking out but he'll murder me for having you out in this storm." Barry reached into his desk and pulled out a bag of candy and offered it to the girl.
Aurora only groaned in annoyance. She was one of the rare kids who actually enjoyed science. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing! Think about how much we are going to be able to learn once this thing cuts on. It will change the way we look at physics! Central City will be powered by clean energy by this." The girl was practically jittering with excitement. "Wouldn't you rather be on the ground so you can say you were there when Central City changed forever?"
"I'd rather be dry and indoors from the rain." Barry passed the girl a lollipop which she snagged from his hand. "Plus we got a great view to watch it cut on from right here." He pointed out the window and he was right. You could see across the city from the window.
