In the warm sunny afternoon, two shadows slowly trailed along the street, the smaller one skipping behind the bigger to keep up with its long legs. The smaller's hair swayed to the breeze with a sudden sprint, the shadows meddling as Kenma reached Kuroo's side.
Kuroo was quite annoyed with the blonde that day, so he didn't turn around to face him nor did he acknowledge his presence at all. So he kept walking with his head slightly turned to the side, going out of his way to avoid any kind of contact with the boy that so desperately searched his gaze.
He felt like Kozume had been growing morbidly attached to him in the past few weeks, breathing down his neck at every move.
Kuroo, your grades. Kuroo, you forgot to eat. Kuroo. Kuroo. Kuroo are you alright?
He couldn't take it anymore.
Kenma was now always in the way, hindering all of Kuroo's plans to get closer to you. Never did he leave his best friend alone, following his every movement like a shadow, always trying to help.
And that day the blonde had insisted to go over to Kuroo's house. For the sake of old times, perhaps? Kozume was clinging desperately to a forgotten past life, in a frantic attempt at denying the growing separation between him and his best friend.
Kuroo found it vexing.
That big step, that great upheaval that Tetsurou was about to take had already started. He was now in a free-fall, so there was no time to dwell in the past, no time to idle the memories or to think about futile sweet nothings.
But yet again, Kenma got in the way. At this point Kuroo felt like a nervous wreck, so annoyed that even just one wrong move could make him absolutely lose control over his emotions.
"Kuroo."
The blonde's feeble voice called, a timid hand tugging at his friend's shirt. The other stiffened.
"Hm," Kuroo glared at him with a menacing expression, quite harshly pulling his arm away from Kozume's reach.
"Can you please tell me what is going on?"
"Nothing," the taller replied dryly, "why do you keep asking?"
"It's just that," Kenma struggled to find his words, locking his feet on the rough asphalt and staring right in his friend's eyes, "You've changed."
It probably wasn't the best time for an emotional outburst, but he decided he'd had enough. He wanted Tetsurou back.
"And how is that a bad thing?"
Kuroo was growing more impatient. First, Kenma kept pestering him to go over his place, thus forcing him to hide all of your belongings; now he was going all psychologist on him, treating him as if he was insane.
"You don't care about anything anymore!"
Kuroo chuckled lowly, your image quickly forming in his mind. Kenma couldn't be any further from the truth.
"It's not true."
Kenma huffed in frustration, his hands tensing as tears threatened to form. He rubbed his forehead a few times, breath heavy with the thousand thoughts flooding his mind.
"You don't even talk to me anymore! You- you," another exasperated grunt, "I see it. You keep looking at that girl all the time!"
Kuroo's jaw clenched, "What girl?"
"Fukunaga's friend! I just see it, Kuroo. You keep looking at her, you keep running after her. All you care about is her, and I don't understand why!"
"And what does she have to do with all of this?"
