Silent Cry

I'd wipe the tears from my eyes with my sleeve as I sat on the park bench on this calm night, crying quietly. I watched the black waves move slowly across the river, creating different patterns in the water with the street light reflections.

"Why am I not good enough?" I whispered to myself as I repeatedly hit my forehead.

I watched a leaf fall from a tree above me and started to tear up again then sobbed. I took a deep breath and exhaled shakingly, trying to calm down. I turned around to the sound of someone's familiar footsteps.

"Y/n?" Someone said.

It was Sunghoon. What is he doing here? How did he know I was here? I turned back around and quickly wiped my face as he came to sit beside me.

"Hey." I said.

He noticed the bruises on my arm as I quickly pulled my sleeve down.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

"Yeah, of course. Why?" I sniffled as I tried to stop my chin from trembling.

"Your face is puffy, your eyes are all red, and the bruises. Have you been crying?" Sunghoon asked me.

"No, I don't know what you're talking about." I replied.

"Y/n, I'm concerned."

"I just fell, that's all. That's where I got the bruise from. Nothing else." I told him.

"How do you do it?" He asked, giving me a blank stare.

"How do I do what?" I looked into his big, black, desolate eyes.

"Always pretending that you are okay." He replied.

"I'm not pretending." I scoffed.

"You are, Y/n. You're pretending and it breaks my heart every day."

I'd look down at my shoes.

"How can I help you? You know I'll be here for you. Always."

"I'm not fine. I said I was but I'm really not. How can I be okay?" My voice broke as I looked back up at him. "Everything good about me, everything that I enjoy, my happiness, it's all gone, Sunghoon." I wiped my nose.

He'd stare into my dull eyes. "It's okay. I'm not gone."

I started crying as he took me in his arms and slowly rocked me back and forth. "I'm sorry." My voice shook.

"What for?"

"I don't know why I'm crying." I replied.

"It's okay, Y/n. I understand. It's okay to cry, your emotions just build up after a while and you can't control it." He said.

I nodded, holding onto him tightly.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Sunghoon asked me.

"No..." I said, still crying, my mouth agape with tumultuous breaths.

"It's okay. I'm right here, just breathe. Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that, okay? You'll be alright." He said.

"Mhm." I replied as he kissed my head and continued to comfort me.

He finally let go of me when I calmed down as we gazed into each other's eyes. I could sense that Sunghoon actually cared about me.

"Are you feeling better now?" Sunghoon asked me, holding my upper arm.

"Yeah." I smiled.

"C'mon, I'll walk you home." He said, as he helped me up.

"Is this it?" He asked me as we stood in front of my house.

"Mhm," I said, seeing my mom in the living room. "Don't tell anyone about this, please?" I looked up at him.

"I would never." Sunghoon promised as I grinned and started walking towards my front door.

"Oh," I turned around, "Thank you, for everything."

He smiled as I entered my house and slipped off my shoes before dragging my heavy feet along the cold, wooden floor to my mother who was laying on the couch.

"Mom?" I quietly said but got no response.

I went to the couch and curled up beside her. "It will be okay." I whispered, placing her hair and hugging her. I shed a tear before my eyelids dropped and I was sound asleep.
