This marriage law was horrible. When we walked into the room, my mind went into panic mode. I would've ran off had Draco not had his arm around me.
The room had been expanded and transformed. It looked like a bridal store in the back, filled to the brim with any kind of wedding gown you could possibly imagine.
"Please everyone, take a seat with your partners," the Minister said, gesturing to the love seat couches that were still in the front of the room. A chalkboard was stationed behind where the Minister was standing.
We all hesitantly took our seats, and waited for the Minister to speak.
"Now, I realize that this is a lot. But you all have to be married within two weeks. So tonight, you are all to schedule your wedding dates. And to save time for you all later, ladies are to pick out their dresses and gentlemen are to pick out the rings tonight," he explained.
Pansy raised her hand, and the Minister nodded to her to go ahead. "What about the bridesmaids dresses?"
"Excellent question. After you have picked out your gowns and gotten them fitted, you can pick the bridesmaids gowns. To make this easier for everyone, everyone in this room will be either the bridesmaid or groomsmen for everyone else. Your measurement sizes will be used to fit you in the dress the bride picked out. And of course you can choose your maid of honor and best man."
Everyone in the room grimaced at that. I barely knew a lot of these people, I didn't want them in my wedding.
"What about our suits?" Draco called out.
"Those will be picked out and fitted tomorrow night."
"And what about the rest of the wedding plans?" a girl I recognized as Hermione's friend, Ginny, asked.
"There will be a packet for you to fill out about wedding plans, and anything else you might want included in your wedding to make it yours. Those are to be handed at least two days before your set wedding date so we have time to get everything delivered," he answered.
"Any other questions?" he questioned, but we all stayed silent.
"Excellent. Now for the wedding dates. As you know, you must be married within two weeks. So, when I call your names, you can call out the day and time of day you wish for. We can figure out exact times later if you aren't sure."
He eyed us for a second, before turning to the chalkboard to write down what we chose.
And so it started. It seemed like a very sad way to decide wedding dates in my opinion. They were supposed to be special, one of the happiest days of our lives, and we were picking them like a kid picking a toy at the store.
Some couples, like Hannah and Neville, Ginny and Harry, and Luna and Blaise picked dates that were fairly soon, as soon as this weekend. Other matches, like Millicent and Gregory, Susan and Terry, and Daphne and Zacharias pushed it off to as far as they possibly could.
The remaining couples that were left were Hermione and Ron, Pansy and Theo, Lavender and Michael, Padma and Ernie, and Parvati and Justin. They all picked dates in between, not too soon, but not as far as they possibly could either.
Finally, the only couple left who hadn't called out a date were me and Draco. I glanced up at the board, and saw each day already had one or two weddings.
I looked at Draco, biting my lip. I didn't want to have a wedding on the same day as someone else. But the only day left without a wedding was two days from now. And I wasn't sure how he'd feel about that.
I didn't know how, but he seemed to sense my nervousness. He took my hand and told me, "You can pick whatever day you want, Evelyn. As soon as you want. I will happily marry you any day, at any time."
