Hero
A few weeks later...
It's been six weeks since me and Josephine are the parents of a beautiful baby boy. And I have to admit that Lucas is good and we didn't have too much troubles for him since he was born. He's almost two months old and he's really cute. Josephine is doing a great job being his mother and I'm trying to help her as much as I can.
Today I have a date. I don't want to go, but Josephine forced me to go. A few days ago, she saw a text on my phone from this girl and I told her how I met her. I met Emily before my father died, at a work conference and we talked, but after my father died, I forgot about her and I was focusing on work and Jo's pregnancy. But she texted me a few days ago and Josephine knew something, so she made take Emily out for dinner. And here I am, getting ready for my first date in the last year.
I take another look in the mirror and I walk downstairs where is Jo with Luc.
"Look at daddy, baby... Isn't he handsome?" He looks at me and Lucas has his face on his mother's cheek.
"Thank you." I go to them and I kiss the baby. "Are you sure you will be good?"
"Yes! Go and have fun. It's your day today. Lisa is preparing a girls night out, so you will stay with him then." I giggle.
"Text me if something is wrong."
"I will. Now, go and have fun with that girl!"
"Okay. Just call or text if something is not good."
"I will." She nods and she slowly pulls me to the door. "Bye daddy, have fun with that girl!"
"Bye, bye, baby." I smile and I leave the house, walking to my car.
I get inside and I drive to the restaurant. I'm nervous a bit because it's been a while since I had a date. My last date was almost one year ago, when I met Josephine. And since then, besides my mother and sister, she was the only woman in my life, not romantically. I wasn't selfish and I decided to give myself to Jo's pregnancy and now, Lucas. But now it's time to do something with my romantic life.
I arrive at the restaurant where I will meet Emily. I get inside and I wait for her. After 15 minutes, she's finally here.
"Hero, hi!"
"Hello!" I get up and I kiss her cheeks.
"I'm sorry for being late, but when I wanted to leave home, I saw that my car is broken, so I had to call a taxi."
"It's okay, don't worry." I smile and I help her to sit down.
"I was surprised when you texted me. I thought you've ghosted me."
"A lot happened in the last months..."
"Oh... You lost someone?"
"Yes. My father died a few months ago..."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Hero... I think it's very painful."
"It is. But this is the life and we can't do anything."
"Yeah, that's right. And tell me more about you..."
"I have something to tell you, before everything. And I think you will want to run away after..."
"What can be so bad?"
"Well, I have a son."
"A son? Oh, wow. How old is he?"
"Six weeks."
"Oh..."
"Look, I don't want to lie to you about this... Me and his mother ended in bed last year and it happened, it was unexpected, but she wanted to keep the baby and I decided to help her. We're in good terms and we are growing our child together." She just looks at me without saying anything. "It's okay if you want to run away. I know it's not something you want from the first date, but this is the truth."
"I like your honesty, Hero." She smiles. She likes my honesty? Oh, that's new.
"You do?"
"Yes. I think honesty is something important in a relationship." She smiles.
We talk for hours and I find a nice connection with Emily. She's really nice and I really like her. After dinner, we took a walk around the restaurant, then I proposed to drive her home.
"Thank you for tonight, Hero..."
"I like it too."
"Maybe we will go out again, right?"
"Of course!" She smiles and I kiss her cheek.
"See you soon, Emily."
"Alright. Have a good night, Hero!"
"You too."

I arrive home and I get in the house silently, so I won't make too much noise to wake up Josephine or Lucas. But I find Josephine sitting on the couch scrolling on her phone.
"You're awake!"
"Yes." She smiles and she looks at me. "How was your date?"
"Good." I take off my jacket and I sit next to her.
"Good?" She giggles. "You really like this girl, aren't you?"
"I do. Why you are not sleeping?"
"I'm not Lucas to sleep early."
"I can watch him tonight. You can sleep in peace."
"I put him to sleep in my bedroom, so I'll watch him tonight."
"Okay, then."
"And how is she?"
"She's very nice. We have a lot of things in common and I really like her."
"I'm happy for you, Hero."
"Thank you."
"And did you tell her about me and Lucas?"
"Yes, I did. I wanted to be honest from the first time. I don't want to give them hopes..."
"And?"
"She reacted well. She said that honesty is something she appreciate in a relationship. So, I think everything will be fine."
"I hope we can meet her soon."
"Well, I want to see if everything works between us before to bring her here. I don't want strangers around Lucas if I don't trust them."
"I understand."
"I hope you will find someone soon."
"Well, my priority is Lucas now, so I will let relationships for later."
"If I will have a relationship, I promise to not ignore my boy."
"I know you won't. But soon, you should move back to your house. I like having you here, but now, you need some intimacy with this girl."
"We are not together yet."
"But you like her."
"I do. But I will stay with you for a while."
"Okay... I will go to sleep. I'm sure Lucas will wake me up soon."
"Have a good sleep, Josephine."
"Thank you."
