Josephine

It's Friday and we're on our way to my doctor's appointment to find out the gender of our baby. And I'm really excited. We both think that we're having a little girl, but only the doctor will be able to tell us exactly.

"Are you excited?"

"Really excited, babe." I say as we walk in the clinic. We check in and we wait. After 10 minutes, a nurse takes us to Dr. Bell's office.

Dr. Bell: "It looks like you changed your mind, right?"

Jo: "Yes." I smile and I go to sit on the bed. I lift up my t-shirt and Hero sits next to me.

Dr. Bell: "The results of you last tests are perfect, so everything is alright. Now, let's see the baby." She starts the ultrasound and we see the baby on the screen. "Congratulations guys! You will be again the parents of a baby boy."

Jo: "Oh... A boy?" I smile looking at Hero. All I can see on his face is happiness. It looks like we are making only boys. I'm happy, even if I wanted a girl. But it doesn't matter. All what matters is that the baby is healthy.

After our appointment, we go to Martha's place. She came back today and we decided to let Lucas with her while we were at my appointment.

Hero parks the car in the front of Martha's house, then we get out and we walk hand in hand to the house. We get inside and there is silence. Or something happened, or Lucas is asleep. But I prefer the second choice. We find Martha on the couch and she gets up as she sees us.

Martha: "Oh, hey! Lucas is sleeping. If you want, you can let him tonight with me. So, you can have some time alone."

Hero: "Would you watch him?"

Jo: "No need to take care of him, Martha."

Hero: "Yes, it will be great if Lucas will stay with his grandmother."

Jo: "But..."

Hero: "Nothing. You need some rest after this week, so he will stay here."

Martha: "If you want all the weekend alone, I can have him. It's a pleasure to spend time with that little cutie."

Jo: "Are you sure it's okay? Maybe you're busy with something else..."

Martha: "It's okay, darling. I'm a retired and a widow woman. I like to be a grandmother, so it's no problem taking care of Lucas."

Jo: "Okay, fine. Call us later to see him?"

Martha: "I will."

Jo: "But still, I want to go to see him." I rub my belly.

Hero: "Then let's see him, then we can go home."

We walk upstairs and silently enter in Lucas's room where he's sleeping peacefully. I smile and I lean on Hero.

"I don't know how I will handle three boys." I say being quiet.

"Three?"

"Lucas, the baby and you."

"Oh, I'm not difficult. We will do it together, we will handle our two boys together."

"I can't wait!"

A few months later...

"Thanks for coming Lisa!" Hero says hugging her.

"No problem! And happy birthday!"

"Thank you!" Lisa leaves and now it's just me, Hero, Lucas, Martha and Mercy.
