The Mockingjay Returns

When night falls I decide I want to go see Peeta but after realising I haven't ate anything since breakfast I wait for Sae to come over with dinner. Sae comes round about 6:30pm with dinner which I force down and go over to Peeta's. I knock on the door of his house, no answer. I wait but still no answer. As I am about to leave the door opens

"Katniss" he seems surprised.

"Hey can I come in?" I ask.

"yeah sure" he replies.

I walk into the unfamiliar surroundings of his home, it is the same layout as my own home so I can navigate through the house quickly. I make my way to the living room, I look around and notice the untidy mess that lies around me. Peeta catches my glance but doesn't offer anything

"I wanted to thank you for the Primroses again Peeta."

"No problem Katniss, just a small gesture for a friend" that jabs me right in the heart.

"Well, Peeta I was thinking. I would like for us to be friends again. Besides Haymitch, you are one of only the few people I can trust." I ask

"Yeah I'm sure we can work something out" he replies

I go to leave when he stops me in my tracks

"Don't be a stranger, come over to mines tomorrow and we can do something."

"I would like that" a nice reply I think.

'm lying in my room thinking about what we could be doing tomorrow, I stare at the clock realising that's all I've been thinking about for the past hour but I don't want to sleep only to be roused by nightmares. I have a restless night but a dreamless one for the first time in months.

It's around late afternoon when Peeta comes to my front door I let him in and tell him that I will be a minute until I am ready. I walk down the stairs to find Peeta dressed in khaki shorts and a blue top, he smiles at me as I have showered for the first time in 2 days and have my hair in my signature braid.

"I thought we could check out the town today to see what the District is becoming." Peeta suggests

"Yeah ok, I haven't seen the town properly since I've been home" I reply

We walk from my house along the road until we reach the square of District 12 to see the progress that has been made. This is the first time me and Peeta have seen the place for more than 5 minutes, we see familiar faces pass as everyone is trying to get District 12 into the busy town that it once was. People offer smiles and waves to which Peeta returns I suppose people are still not over the 'starcrossed lovers' fiasco, we see Thom who is hard at work so we decide not to bother him. Peeta and I look around at the new buildings in awe, we walk around town for around an hour before we got bored and decide to head back to Peeta's as Sae would be round any moment with dinner. We run as fast as we could to try beat her back, when we arrive we find Sae walking up to my house.

"Sae, its okay. Katniss and I can make dinner tonight. Well more me than Katniss." He laughs

"Okay, thank you Peeta. Will I see you both tomorrow for breakfast?" Sae asks

"No that's fine Sae, we've got it for tomorrow. You can have a day off." He jokes he then goes on to say goodbye to Sae and we enter his house.

Peeta goes into the Kitchen while I sit in the lounge. Dinner won't be for another hour so I decide to put on some TV, flicking through the channels I find nothing so far all I can find is some a couple of baking channels and a few talk shows. Dinner could not come fast enough, I take my place at the dining table and wait for Peeta to bring the plates. 5 minutes pass, 10 minutes pass. Things are starting to get a little weird. "Peeta" I say "Peeta" but still no reply, I'm starting to get a little worried now. I make my way to the kitchen but find nothing "Peeta?" I'm really worried now. "Yeah Katniss?" he shouts from upstairs, the relief flows through my veins.

"Don't do that, anything could have happened to you" I angrily shout

"Katniss I'm fine, stop worrying. I got a lot of help in the Capitol to stop my episodes happening."   

He walks down stairs to meet me and we make our way through to the dining room where we eat in comfortable silence, I always thought this would be very uncomfortable but to my surprise it is the complete opposite. When dinner is finished I make my way to the lounge, Peeta joins me a few moments later.

"I want to remember them" I say

"We can if you want to Katniss" Peeta looks at me weirdly.

I go on "We could write a book, you can draw and I can write?"

"That sounds a good idea Katniss" He leaves the room to collect his paintbrushes and art equipment while I sit and think about who I can write about. Prim, Finnick, Mags, Rue, the list goes on and on. Peeta returns and we sit  for hours and hours remembering all the people we have lost, he draws, I write that's the way it goes until I get really tired and I start to feel myself drift off.

He wakes me up "Katniss, It's 2am. I think we should call it a night." He goes to say more but I cut him off.

"I really should get home." I move to get up when he stops me "You can crash on the sofa if you want, I mean you look like you are about to fall asleep." But before I can say anything I find myself falling asleep right before his eyes.

Running, everyone around me is running. I can see everyone that I wrote about in the book getting eaten alive. I try to shout on them but it's too late. I notice a blonde girl in the corner. "Prim, get away from there" I shout but instead of running towards me, she is blown to pieces right in front of me. I'm screaming now, my throat is hurting from screaming so much.

"Katniss"  I am shook

"Katniss, wake up." I am shook again. That's when I wake up to find Peeta looking over the top of me.

"I'm fine, it's just a nightmare..." but the nightmare as usual gets the best of me and I find myself crying into Peeta's shoulder. He's whispering calming words to me effortlessly trying to make me feel better, it took a full 10 minutes before I calm down. I get up to leave but that's when I notice Peeta back off of me, I notice his blue eyes disintegrate into black ones and I know immediately what is happening.
