( y / n ) picked her food.
The atmosphere was uneasy, shoulders down towards the table and clacking from each seat, forks piercing the porcelain plates. Nobody said a word.Because this time, 4 seats were filled.
Everybody except one was completely uncomfortable, looking anywhere else but each other, other than giving knowing looks. He was silent, a fancily printed napkin tucked in the collar of his suit. His back was straight, but so were his face, shoulders, and fingers, delicately cutting his steak.
( y / n ) struggled to cut her steak, the china making an unpleasant screeching sound every time she mistakingly cut her steak in the wrong place. And every time it did, everybody, including ( y / n ) made an irked look.
But it wasn't to the point of giving a look, but Father gave her a look, then looked away almost instantly but the damage was done, ( y / n ) shriveled into her seat. She didn't even look at the steak after that.
Shina's manners were copied and pasted from her Father's, and her hasty catch-up always irritated ( y / n ). Because as Shina was politely eating her medium-rare wagyu beef, ( y / n ) was eating her peas.
"So." His sharp voice started and everybody jumped out of their skin, listening attentively. "What have I missed?"
Shina pursed her lips. "Well- I won the national spelling bee, winning with Dichlorodifluoromethane and my writing got published in New York Times."
"Good job, Shina." He praised, his face lying straight. He looked towards ( y / n ), his eyes sending a shiver down her spine although very aware that he was going to interrogate her next. "And you?"
( y / n ) looked at Shina for some comfort, not given by her unavailability as Shina shifted in her seat with an acute smile. ( y / n ) winced, giving up on her attempt of thinking of something meaningful, and pursed her lips. "I.. got a boyfriend."
Father's eyebrows pulled upwards. "Oh. That's- good."
"Thanks." She murmured, unknowing of what to say and looking away
"Well, I got a favour for you two." Nobody knew backs could be that straight, ( y / n ) hitched a groan but Shina was still staring with vigilance. "For a while, I've been working on these."
Out of nowhere, he pulled out a black suitcase. Fingers stylishly and swiftly putting in the right code, with a loud click, the top opened. He heaved the case only slightly upward but gently for the three to see inside.
Coffee Jelly.
It wasn't the Coffee Jelly you'd normally see in a convenience store, each was a deep brown that slowly but surely turned deeper in colour as it descended down to the end. The whipped cream was thick and a beautiful pale white, whipped to perfection. The stand they were on was god-like, and beautifully designed, it felt like a sin to be in its presence.
The silver plate on the glass container read out 'Etichi.'
( y / n )'s eyes narrowed.
"We did a survey. Found out they people your age are the main demographic. So I want you guys to try it out and tell me how you feel." He stated with no identifiable emotion as he addressed the two.
