People are not born evil.
That was my personal belief. The way a person is brought up in the world plays a wide role in who they are and why they are that way. And on top of that, a person's past did not define their ability to change either.
"This isn't good."
[Curtains open]
[Enter] (Y/N), Kataoka, Isogai, and Takebayashi.
(Y/N) holds a thin stack of papers, "...S-sorry, was that too harsh? It's easy to have bias towards one of the sides of the argument. While that is helpful for the side you like, it's detrimental for the opposing side."
Yuma shakes his head, "No, you're okay. You're right though. It's just hard trying to come up with something for both sides."
"Most competition style debates pick which side you're on at random and then you'll have two minutes to prepare," (Y/N) explains.
Kataoka spoke up from a nearby desk, "What's the order that it goes in?"
"Last time I did formal debate the order started with the first affirmative speaker who presents the points of the negative side, then the first negative speaker who responds to what the affirmative speaker said," (Y/N) answers, "The second negative speaker goes after and presents the points of the negative side. Then the second affirmative addresses them. Finally, we have the two rebuttal speakers who present conclusions for both the negative and affirmative sides in that order.
"Each speaker gets two minutes to talk, with two minutes in between each speaker so that judges can tally up points."
The team we had settled on was Isogai, Kataoka, and I, with Karma and Takebayashi as back-up members. Only four of us were present at the moment. Karma had skipped out on today's meeting. I had a feeling that he had taken a keen disliking to me, so he frequently skipped out on meetings and only went to the ones that I said were important.
I didn't blame him though. I wasn't planning on reaching out to him either.
[Enter] Sugino.
"Hey guys," Sugino popped his head it from the doorway, "I've got news for you three."
(Y/N) raised an eyebrow while Kataoka questioned, "Okay, what is it?"
"I just heard from Shindou that Asano's working with the debate team," He informed, "He's also offered to hold it in front of all of the third year classes. Not to mention, one of the three judges will be his very own father."
(Y/N) visibly stiffened and involuntarily started trembling, "You have got to be kidding me..."
No one terrified me more than that man who went by the title of Principal Asano.
[Enter] Karma.
Out of nowhere, Karma had appeared from outside the window of the classroom.
"The entire school for a debate that'll last less than 30 minutes? I'd say that's a bit of an overkill," He hummed, jumping over the divider between the outside and the classroom.
"On the bright side, Yasui Tsuyoshi compromised," Sugino explained, "The boy and girl representatives, along with three other classmates, from each class are invited to attend, as well as the entirety of Class A and E. The Five Virtuosos will be there as well. So about forty to fifty people will be in your audience, not including the judges."
"Asano probably planned that to intimidate us," Yuma sighed, "He's not even on the team, but it still works in his favor if we lose."
"Tch... It's not the size of the audience that I'm worried about..." (Y/N) mumbled, grip tightening on the papers with shaky hands, "It's the judges. After all..."
