"Happy birthday!" Tamara exclaimed as Leah entered their office on the Saturday morning. Leah blushed and slid behind her desk.
"Thank you," she said as she opened up her laptop and started it up. "Are you seeing your man tonight?" Jenna asked her, holding out an open box of Krispy Kreme donuts. Leah took a raspberry and white chocolate one.
"No," she sighed. "Well maybe briefly, but I'm going out with my family for dinner after I've finished up here."
"Still not told your dad?" Leah shook her head vehemently. They couldn't understand her reluctance to tell her dad as they still had no clue themselves that she was the Race Director's daughter.
"I can't. Dad will go mad. After what happened to me, he is so overprotective. It drives me crazy." Not just that, he hated Seb with a passion and it was never going to go down well. She just didn't know what to do for the best. Whatever she did someone was going to get hurt.
"Leah. You're twenty seven now. You're a big girl. Your dad has got to let go sometime," Tamara said. Leah bit her lip. If only it was that simple.
The door opened and Bella waltzed in. She ignored all three of them and sat at her desk, pulling her phone out and scrolling through something. Tamara pulled a face at Leah, making her laugh.
"Good morning Bella," Jenna said, brightly. The blonde grunted in return.
There was a knock on the door and it opened. Shelley poked her head around. "Happy birthday Leah," she said. "There's been a delivery for you, one of the Aston Martin girls just brought these over."
She came fully into the room, carrying one of the biggest bouquets of red roses that Leah had ever seen! Tamara gasped. Jenna began gushing about how lucky Leah was. Bella turned her nose up and returned to scrolling on her phone. Leah took them off of Shelley.
"Someone special?" the older woman smiled.
"Maybe," Leah replied, blushing.
"They're beautiful. Now girls, we're going to be extra busy today. There's Formula 1, 2 and 3, and they've introduced more corners with track limits. Lunches will be staggered as usual. Bella, you're first at 12. Jenna, 12.30. Leah 1. Tamara 1.30. Now heads down. Formula 3 are about to get started."
Leah put her flowers on her desk. They were in a white porcelain vase that had a red ribbon tied around it. Underneath the ribbon was an envelope. Leah pulled it from under the ribbon and opened it.
Happy 27th Birthday to my beautiful girlfriend. Wish I could spend the day with you, spoiling you and showing you just how much you mean to me. Come to my hotel room later at about 7? Room 521. I have a little something for you. Have a great day. And I will look forward to giving you a birthday kiss later.
Your Sebastian xx
Her heart started fluttering. He really was the most perfect man in the world. It really would be so easy to fall in love with him.
She picked her phone up and quickly tapped out a text.
Leah: thank you for the flowers. They're beautiful. L x
A minute later he replied.
Seb: you're welcome. They're not as beautiful as you. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. Can't wait to see you later, even if it's only for ten minutes. S x
She smiled again and then turned her attention to her laptop. Time to focus on work.
