Seb walked, and he walked, and he walked. He followed the track around, his mood constantly switching between furious and heartbroken. He couldn't process what had just happened. Leah was Chandler-Webb's daughter?
Why? Why did he have to find the love of his life and have her turn out to be the daughter of a man he despised? Apart from she wasn't really the love of his life. She wasn't the woman he'd fallen head over heels for. No, Leah Chandler-Webb was a liar.
He choked back the tears as he made his way around Copse and towards Maggots. Leah. He'd been so close to making love to her. So close! It was then that he realised he was still wearing the condom she'd rolled onto him.
He laughed almost hysterically at the irony. He'd forgotten he'd been wearing a condom that night too. The night he and Martin Chandler-Webb had become destined to be enemies. Perhaps falling for his enemy's daughter had been the punishment he'd always deserved for sleeping with the man's wife.
As he came out of Chapel and onto the Hangar Straight all the feelings of hurt and heartbreak overwhelmed him. He fell to his knees in the middle of the track and began to sob.
He was in so much pain. All he wanted was Leah. His Leah. Not Leah Chandler-Webb. But they were the same person. They always had been. His heart was aching so much, he couldn't breathe properly.
"Leah," he cried to himself. He needed her. He was nothing without her. How could she do this to him? How could she let him fall for her and not say a word? That's what hurt the most. Had it always been a game to her? Had she ever cared about him in the slightest?
He had no idea how long he stayed there on his knees. He had no recollection of dragging himself to his feet and making his way back to the hotel, but finally he walked through the entrance into the lobby. The afterparty was still going on. Maybe he should go in and find someone, anyone, to take back to his room and fuck. Maybe Bella would be up for it? Maybe Daniel would want to join them?
He went into the function room and seeing Daniel was still sat at the same table, he made his way over.
He sank onto the chair he'd vacated hours ago. "Hey there you are!" Daniel declared. "Wondered where you and Leah went. Oh, change of shirt...you dirty bastard, have you been getting some?" Seb just stared at the table in front of him. He couldn't talk. If he talked he'd break.
"Where's Leah? You worn her out?"
Seb stayed silent. Daniel realised that something wasn't right. "Seb mate, what's up?"
"Leah!" he gasped, tears pooling in his eyes. He stood up. He'd made a mistake. He shouldn't have come in here. He had to get out. He made for the entrance, taking long strides. He heard Daniel calling after him but he was in no mood for conversation.
He crossed the lobby and into the stairwell, ignoring the elevator. He ran up the stairs, not stopping until he'd reached the fifth floor. He stopped as he exited the stairwell. He began panting, gasping for breath.
What if she was still there? Should he just fuck her before throwing her out?
What if she wasn't there? What if she'd left and he'd never get the chance to kiss her again?
"You don't want to kiss her again! She's a liar!" he muttered as he began to walk towards his room. He opened the door and went inside.
The room was in darkness but he could see a small sliver of light shining from underneath the bathroom door. Was she still here? What would he say to her?
He kicked his trainers off and sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for a sign that she was in there.
Looking down at the carpet he spotted the red negligee laying where he'd tossed it earlier. He leant over and picked it up. He held it to his face. He could smell her on it even though it had only been on her body for minutes before he'd torn it off of her. He'd been so desperate for her.
