Hiro's POV

'And then we exchanged numbers just in case we needed to communicate in some way,' I said, and Sashi just hummed in response as I gently played with her hair. 'He's waiting outside the house in his car, so we can get to you faster if anything does go awry, but in all honesty, I hate this plan. If it were up to me, you would have been out of here by now.'

'But I do see the detective's point. I mean, if we get your brother to admit to the murder of your parents, we'll be able to put him behind bars for the rest of his life,' she said. 'We have to take this chance, Hiro. We'll never have to worry about him again if he gets a life sentence.'

'No, it's too dangerous,' I said, cupping her face with my hands. 'I don't want to keep you here any longer if I can get you out now. I can untie you right this second and help you escape. Taking this risk just isn't worth it.'

'So...what? We're just going to flee once he's been released and live in fear of your brother finding us for the rest of our lives? I can do this, Hiro. I know I can. I can try to rile him up and get him to admit to the murder. I know exactly what to do.'

'But you could get hurt, tenshi.'

'I know, but I also know that you won't allow anything to happen to me. Just like that detective said, the minute it looks like something's going to go wrong, you can bust in here and save me. Please, trust me to help you with this, honey. I know I can do it.'

It soon became obvious that I wouldn't be able to change her mind, so all I could do was sigh and place a kiss on her forehead, brushing a few of her dark locks out of her face.

'I have every bit of faith, my angel. But I'm still worried about leaving you alone with him when he's angry. Are you certain that you want to try to get him to admit his guilt?'

'Positive.'

That was it. The last indicator that told me I wouldn't be able to change her mind at all. I have to admit that I never knew just how brave she really was. Or maybe it's the fact that I'll be nearby and watching through the camera that's giving her more courage. That, and the adrenaline coursing through her veins because of the whole situation.

'I love you so much, and as soon as it looks like things are getting out of hand, I'm busting in here to save you with or without that detective's help. I don't care if I have to battle my brother single-handedly,' I said, causing Sashi to smile softly, but our faces soon went back to being serious at the sound of footsteps overhead. 'He's probably returning now to see if you're asleep yet. I know I asked you to be obedient, but now's the time to defy him as much as you want, princess.'

'Believe me, I intend to give him a piece of my mind,' Sashi said with a smile, and I hesitantly placed the rag back into her mouth - hopefully for the last time. As the footsteps became clearer, I quickly hoisted myself through the window once more, before running towards the detective's parked car on the other side of the street.

'So, I take it that your girlfriend's on board?' he asked once I got into the car, and I nodded my head as I brought the basement's footage up on my phone, before turning the volume all the way up and hitting the record button.

'She was much more eager to do this than I was,' I said, watching the screen closely. The dark-haired girl was still alone in the basement, but it wasn't very long before a beam of light appeared on the floor, followed by my brother's heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. He was carrying a pillow in one hand and a blanket in the other, as Sashi had requested them in order to buy us some time.

'Here you go, my darling. Sorry that it took so long, but I only wanted the best pillow and blanket for you,' he said as he placed the pillow down beside her, before trying to cover her with the blanket to the best of his abilities. 'I promise that once we get out of here and find a secluded place, you'll have a much more comfortable place to sleep, but allowing you to sleep upstairs would just be too risky. Do you want anything else before you go to bed?'
