Helena Miranda was a very talented girl. Her parents were always praised for how well-behaved and kind she was to everyone. Helena was the happiest little girl you would ever meet, very special in her own way. She would always bring joy to the people she grew up with, in a village in the north of England, where her mother moved to after meeting Carlos, a muggle while visiting her parents in Portugal.
When Helena turned six, she joined her little kindergarten friends in her first year at elementary school. Once again, she was praised for her talent.
"Oh, Mrs.Miranda, your Helena is a very smart girl. I'm glad I'm the one to teach her!", her teacher told her mother once.
"Oh, she's just a fast learner.", her mother answered, smiling, but knowing Helena was more than that.
Melissa Miranda, Helena's mother, was a muggle-born witch. She was always looking out for little manifestations of magic in Helena but always kept in mind the possibility of her being a simple muggle.
As Helena grew older, she still got a lot of compliments. She also didn't show any kind of magic whatsoever and her mother stopped looking for signs, just admiring how great her child was nonetheless.
"It'll come out someday.", her husband reassured her. "She's just as magically special as you, love."
In all honesty, it wouldn't be the end of the world if Helena wasn't magical. She was a very smart and creative girl, ahead of her age according to her teachers, with a bright future ahead of her nonetheless. But Melissa had this spark of hope in her heart that her little sunshine would get to experience magic on the tip of her fingertips someday.
