Zoey Kagel

Luke pulls me behind him. I trip from the force, having to right myself by grabbing onto his arm. Samatha's stance does not waver once as her arms point outwards with the hand gun steady in her hands.

"What the hell?" I cry, struggling to grab enough oxygen.

Luke trembles in front of me which doesn't fill me with much hope. One of us has to get control of the situation. Samantha looks terrible, half-dead, in fact. By the weight of her alone, either of us could overpower her if it wasn't for deadly weapon in her hand.

"It's nice to see you finally came home, bro," she says, frantic blue eyes narrowing into two tight slits.

Luke presses back into me, almost as if he's checking to see I'm still there. "Put the gun down, Samantha."

"Not a chance," she laughs.

He breathes harder. "Then at least let Zoey leave."

Is he mad? No way in hell am I leaving him here with this nutcase. The pure hate oozing from her gaze tells me she's willing to do anything at this point to get what she wants.

What went so wrong in their life to make her want to aim a gun at his face? The pictures of them smiling, living a settled life so distant from the people they are now. Losing their parents really did do a number on both of them, but then Luke says she was turbulent before his parents died so I don't have the answers.

"I-I'm not going anywhere," I say, watching her smile grow.

She steps forward and we step back, fuelling her need for control. Her wild locks fly everywhere when she tips her head back to laugh, arms shaking as she drops them slowly and spins in a circle.

"Is your driver armed?" I whisper in Luke's ear, wondering if I can slip off with enough time to alert him.

"I killed him. Poor Steve. And he's worked for you for so long," she says, grinning at our shocked noises.

Luke's legs power forward until his chest rests at the head of the gun, sending me wild with fright. A scary amount of anger rushes through him when he grabs a fistful of her hair to drag her head close to his face.

"I'm going to kill you!"

She laughs. "Not before I kill you first."

"Luke!" I shout, my fear catapulting to the greatest level, tugging on his coat. "Don't be so stupid! What are you doing?"

Samatha catches my eye from over his shoulder and tilts her head with a menacing look in her eye. "What did my scumbag of a brother ever do to deserve someone like you, Zoey? I'm curious!"

Luke jostles her around as her chest vibrates with screaming laughter. "Give me the gun now!"

Samantha's willowy body curves in all directions, fighting just as hard as her brother which feels impossible considering her size. Drugs must be to blame. It's the only explanation to her super-strength.

I remain where I am, reaching into my pocket to dial 999 with shaky fingers. They jostle around, my heart preparing itself for hearing a bang. It never comes. The loud shouting overcoming everything else.

I shout the details to the operator. "HELP! You need to help us... please!"

Then I drop the phone and charge towards them, spotting a weakness in Samatha's hold as my hands shove her backwards, landing on her chest when she falls back. Luke shouts my name, but my brain is too concentrated on disarming her of the gun.

"Zoey, no!" he desperately cries.

"You stupid little bitch," she screams in my face, the entire of her front teeth missing.
