Zoey Kagel
There's a reason that my name rhymes with bagel. I love bread. Every kind. I never discriminate. There are so many choices at the sandwich shop that I only pay a slight attention to the surrounding gasps.
I let my eyes roam around the ingredients in the tiny tubs behind the counter, wondering if it would be rude to order before Erica got here. This is a big moment for me. Rockafella are interested in me! I should probably tread with caution.
The girl serving up front clears her throat, pointing behind my shoulder when I catch onto her staring, turning around to lose myself a little bit. Two powerful presences just entered the room.
I can't breathe.
My words crumble into a strange noise as Erica introduces the others to me. I'm no stranger to the feelings that come along with being star struck. I have been around enough celebrities to feel out of place, but this is next level stuff.
Maeva Ricci.
To say I have been a super fan of hers for years now would be an understatement. She's crazy talented and has been incredibly smart with her music career and fashion line. An inspiration to many. And her face is a make-up artist's dream.
My wave is lame. I want to groan at myself as soon as my hand is halfway in the air, as I squeak out. "Hey there."
Erica beams at me. "Oh, my, you're even more beautiful in real life! A computer screen doesn't do you justice!"
I don't know how to answer her, finding what she said strange. It seems the others agree when they frown down at her.
"Erm, thanks," I say, having to bite my lip to stop a laugh at her even stranger facial expressions. She wasn't like this during our Skype interview.
"Let me get you something to drink," she rushes out, digging into her bag for something.
"It's okay, I already ordered."
Her head moves up sharply, eyes blinking a dozen a second. "You did?"
I nod. "Erm, yeah. Is that okay?" Now she's got me thinking I did the wrong thing.
"Celebrities don't buy their own shit, do they, Erica?" says Maeva, rolling her eyes when she pulls a seat out from under the table to sit down.
Erica narrows her eyes before grinning at me. "I just thought that seeing as though we invited you here, we should at least get you a drink."
"Oh, well thank you, maybe it was rude of me to order without you," I say, a little weary now that I overstepped an important showbiz rule or something.
Erica fluffs with her hair as she shakes her head. "Gosh, no, darling! You did nothing wrong. Let me go chase up that order of yours while I get us something to eat. Did you pay yet?"
