~Super Special Secret Strike~

I stared at the very centre point of the stadium. Keeping my focus on that particular spot.

"There, right there. Right in the middle. That's where we'll go." I told my partner as I quickly changed the gears from attack to defence. Her voice echoed throughout my head.

"In the middle?" Her breaths came out surprisingly panicked. "But fighting defence with defence? I-In the middle? We can't pull that off!"

"Trust me," I told her as the crowd got ready for the countdown. "We need to have trust in each other if this is going to work. Remember that thing we were trying the other day?" She was silent for a while before gasping in disbelief.

"That?! That was so long ago, and it's not even perfected! That move is way too risky!"

"Well, playing it safe won't grant us that win. Only this will."

"Yeah if we pull it off!" She scoffed. "We'll be humiliated if it fails! More than humiliated actually, we'll be-"

"You have to trust me! We're partners, right?"

"Of course! I do trust you," She replied hesitantly before groaning. "Ok, I trust you. Let's do this!"

"3!"

"2!"

"1!"

"Let it rip!"

Athena dropped into the stadium and instead of going for the opponent like we usually would as attack, we went straight into the centre and spun there.

"What's this?!" Hanami called out in surprise.

"Athena X has claimed the centre right off the bat! Looks like they chose defence this time around! What could Ally Deelo be planning here?"

I smiled up at Ren Wu who's facial expression hadn't changed at all. He looked up at me too, Shelter Regulus spinning a good distance away from the centre.

"Whatever you're planning won't work." He told me with his chin tilted up. "You can kiss your spot in the finals goodbye. Shelter Regulus, Fang Attack!"

"Athena! X-Field! Don't let him touch you!" Athena's spin grew stronger as a shield was formed around the bey.

I smiled and lifted my chin slightly. It's been a while since we've played defence.

Regulus came in, guns blazing, but our shield held up. The opponent hardly pushed us back. And as Regulus came in for attacks our move, X-Field, played its part in dealing out average attacks to throw off the opponents balance.

It took us a while to perfect this move but it was worth it.

"Now what is this?! What a move! Athena X has gone on the defensive and the attack! Will Shelter Regulus be able to find a way around this insane move?!" Hanami screamed out in genuine surprise.

"Good, chuck every unique move we have at him. Give him something he's never seen before." I told my partner who gave a grunt of approval, too focused in concentration to properly reply.

Our spar continued, Regulus would come in for an attack only to be blocked and pushed back by a strike of our own.

I watched the stadium intently, not planning to take my eyes off for a second lest I lose concentration. I blocked out the ringing sound around me and calmed my ecstatic heart.
