*First Battle*
"Athena X with a burst finish! Ally Deelo wins the match!"
The referee pointed to me as the game concluded with my bey spinning in the centre and Xander's in three pieces.
We were both panting after a long, hard battle of pure showcase of strength. I recalled the words my 'mentor' told me.
"Xander is all about power. You won't get through him with clever tactics or well-thought out strategies because his strength always gets him out of a pinch. How you need to win,"
She spoke as her bey continued to pummelled at mine with nothing but pure power and momentum.
"-is through the classic brawl. Arm wrestle him."
Her strategy to win against Xander was incredibly simple.
Win with raw power.
But in retrospect, Xander is a tough opponent and suddenly it's not that simple anymore.
Thankfully, the past few days, Brie had been training with me in order to bring out my intense power.
And now, even without some fancy plan, I won my first match of the God Bladers Cup. I looked up as the crowd cheered.
I managed to spot Kris in the stands waving at me and whooping her heart out. Shasa was right next to her, going just as crazy as her hair seemed to buzz with excitement.
I smiled before walking off the stage. Free was, disappointingly, absent.
Of course, he's getting ready for his own battle which should be right now actually.
But I couldn't go watch, I had a few things I needed to do first.
"Wow, he doesn't go to your match so you're not gonna go to his? What are you, five?" Athena scoffed in my head and I rolled my eyes.
"You know it's not like that." I told her as I finally made it off the stage and through the hallways of the huge arena, hurriedly crossing underneath the big stage over the other side.
"I have things to do."
I turned the corner and found exactly who I was looking for. The tall red-head and the shorter, braided boy looked up at the noise of my footsteps and gave confused looks at my presence.
"Ally," Ren Wu started. "What are you doing here?"
I nodded to him in greeting before making eye contact with Xander. For such a large, confident person, he seemed a bit uncomfortable facing the person he just lost against.
"I wanted to talk." He scratched the back of his head and shrugged.
"Sure, I guess. Let's, uh, go outside?"
That's how we found ourselves exactly outside of the arena with the entrance only a few metres away.
The roar of the crowd could be heard from even out here telling me that either Free or Lui must have been competing.
"So," Xander looked at me and placed his hands on his hips which I barely surpassed in height.
Embarrassing.
"What did you want to talk about?" I cleared my throat before shoving my hands into my pockets, fiddling with Athena as I spoke.
"I heard from Valt that you have a sister, right?" Immediately, the sparkle in Xander's eyes dimmed slightly and he seemed to shrink with how far down his shoulders sank.
