We were done cleaning up and ready to go. I asked her to go first. We couldn't be seen together. I had to be more careful. Three times is not a charm.
We sat across each other, just staring.
"Should I return this phone?" She asked and I realized the little package she brought last night was the same package the phone came with. I shook my head.
"If you need to contact me, you can. Let's not do it frequently, though." I would probably miss her terribly if we cut off all connection.
"I see." Her expression turned complicated. She looked like she's trying to reign in her emotions. I had more experience that her, though.
After another five minutes, she gathered her things. She stood up, walked over me and leaned down for another kiss. I tried hard not to reach out for her, to keep my hands to myself. After it was done, she smiled again, and pecked another before standing back up.
"I'll see you when I see you." She exhaled as she walked backwards.
"You, too." I answered, and she turned to walk out the room and out of my life. She didn't glance back. She continued. I had to remain seated. Something wonderful just ended. Again. I leaned back on the couch, staring at the ceiling. Don't think too much. Focus. If you want something for yourself, you have to fight until you're free.
A few weeks later, Frank told me he sent me a file. I asked him to get Cara's background. Nothing serious, just to make sure her background is clean. When I opened it on my phone, I frowned at the name. I coughed when I saw Oliver's name listed on the family background. More when I read Christan's name as well. What have I gotten myself into?
"Is this real?" I asked Frank who's sitting in front of his computer.
"Yeah, are there issues?" He asked and I stared at him. I searched my mind for the information. He's not aware of Sanders' relation with the Taylors.
"She's clean. Isn't she?" Frank must have noticed the difference in my reaction. He expected nothing out of it, but I'm questioning him.
"Yeah. Clean." I stated absent-mindedly. I thanked him before going back to my office.
She should be safe, right? I started feeling uneasy. In that moment, I knew I can't get involved with her anymore.
