‐------‐--------------------

It was around midnight, and Jim was still fussing with Morpheus. The Great God of Sleep was doing a great job of avoiding the poor officer, whose body was exhausted from a long day of grueling paperwork and court. SWAT was still working on the Neo Emancipators case, but tackled two gang related busts , plus your everyday hostage and theft situation. Besides this, Judge Rodger's list of demands kept growing and growing by the minute. Seemed nothing Street did was enough, there was always some condition, some motion, some paper to fill, some place to go...

He tried everything to feel sleepy. Been watching random videos on social media for over two hours, and nothing. The talking squirrel, the Mexican rat, the dancing monkey...none made him sleepy! As he looked for what felt like the 100th short video, he heard a tapping sound in the window behind the couch.

The couch has been his bed since the judge made the decision last Friday, even though he avoided last night. He had to. He wasn't expecting Chris to just invite him over to her bed, plus the kid already tried to run away once, the day after they moved in. He was keeping guard right next to the door. Jim still felt kinda guilty that he threw all of this Chris' way but hoped that he could make it up to her, somehow. For now, her condition was pretty strict: no sex.

He sat up, and noticed a huge silhouette coming from the shadow behind the window curtain. What the hell? He thought as he slipped his hand under his pillow to remove his service gun. Then, very slowly and carefully, got up from the couch and approached the window through the side. He hunched over -in SWAT position- weapon ready. He placed his hand on the heavy curtain, and upon swinging it, discovered a figure hanging from a rope, just outside his window.

He put his weapon up, but reminded himself that there was a sleeping teenager that he didn't want to wake up -especially one that tends to run away in the middle of the night! In a stern but low tone, he said "Hey! I'm a SWAT officer and I'm armed. Get the hell out of my window. Now!"

He opened the delicate blinds just enough to uncover the full dark body armour of a SWAT officer, wearing the complete tactical gear. He recognized the gear and immediately lowered his gun. "SWAT? What the hell?"

The figured removed his ballistic eyewear and uncovered his mouth.

"Hondo?" called Street, now more confused than ever.

Hondo tapped the window again, then signaled for Street to slide it open. Street had just been there for a couple of days, so he really didn't have a clue how to. He shrugged and shook his head to let Hondo know he was clueless as to how to open the window. He quickly moved towards the base of the big glass window and noticed it slide sideways, to his left. However, it had a lock, which required a key. Street signaled for Hondo to wait, then motioned to the closed door at the far side of the apartment, Chris' room. Hondo gave him a thumbs up and a motion to hurry up.

He opened the door next to hers, and noticed that Rubio was sound asleep. He even went over and checked his breathing rhythm, just to make sure he wasn't faking it. The pressure to keep this kid inside was overwhelming! He quickly and quietly left, closing the door behind him.

"Chris?" Street whispered as he reached Chris' room. Her whole head was under her pillow as her left hand and foot flung from the side of the bed. She looked like she had been doing jumping jacks laying face down on the bed!

"Chris?" Street whispered as he moved closer. He tapped her left hand softly twice, and watched as she belted up, sending the pillow flying to the ground.

"What the hell, Jim?" she said as she moved hair off her face, "This better not be a booty call!"

"Tsks! Chris, c'mon now!" he felt annoyed, but quickly snapped back to reality, "Hondo's at the window. I can't get it open." he whispered

"Hondo what?" she quickly got up and went for a black carton box hidden on the top shelf of her closet. She removed it, opened it and revealed a set of keys. She then went towards the left side of her bed -the side closer down by the wall- and lifted up the mattress to reveal her service gun and her badge. They made it out of the room, and she unlocked the window.

"What's going on? You could've texted!" she whispered to Hondo

"No time. Both of you grab your weapon, badge and shoes, go down through here. Leave cellphones and any smart device!" he said as fast as he could, motioning a rope he held in his right hand.

"What about Rubio? I can't-" Street began to complain

"Just come down and I'll explain, kid! Hurry up! Both of you!" he said quickly as he held the rope out. They both went about to get shoes and place their weapons on their hips.

When they returned, Street was freaking out, as he looked towards the kid's room. "It'll be okay, Street. C'mon!" Hondo motioned him with the rope. "Chris make sure the kid is okay, Street slide down now. That's an order!"

Jim looked at Chris, as she placed her hand on his back and gently pushed him towards Hondo. "Go, I got him."

Hondo met with them in the back alley, between two huge garbage bins. "Listen" he started as he whispered looking at every direction, making sure to avoid any cameras or people, "Give me your keys."

Street went through his pockets, but he had forgotten them in the apartment. He shook his head as Chris took hers out and handed them to her commanding officer. He threw them towards the corner of the sidewalk, about 10 feet from where they hid. A dark figure with a hoodie walked towards them, bent over, picked them up and continued as if nothing happened. Street and Chris looked at each other quizzically. "Luca's brother Terry," Hondo began as he signaled to the figure who was gone in a second, "will get your kid to safety."

"Safety?" Chris asked

"Hondo's, what's going on? Where are you taking him?" asked Street

They heard a noise from between the bins, so all three got glued to the wall, hiding behind the dumpsters. Must've been rats! They gathered again as hardly any light surrounded them, so it was pretty hard to decipher their faces.

"Guys, we've been tagged. Nichelle and Bonnie are going with their parents and siblings outta the city. Annie took the kids and her folks up state. Terry and Luca's family will lay low just outside city limits. They're willing to take in Sarzo's family and your kid. Our main goal is to keep everyone safe. We are officially under FBI maximum protection for the next 48 hours."
