Me Rikki and Emma decided to go for a swim It's so pretty mesmerising We end up drying off and meeting Lewis and cleo at the Juice-net. "You won't believe it. We timed ourselfs and guess how long we can hold our breaths for?" Emma says "Um-" "15 minutes." Rikki cuts in "that's impressive." Lewis says "yep it's pretty cool." I say as I sip my strawberry drink "we could probably stay down for longer if we tried." Emma says "You're on." I say "you think you can beat me?" Emma asks "I know we can." Rikki says "bring it on." I say "you guys must be jumping out of your skin about this stuff." Lewis says "yeah. Well three of us are." Emma says the cleo walks up to the table "hey cleo, guess what? These guys can hold there breath for 15 minutes!" Lewis says "Lewis!" We all say "sorry." He says "what's going on?" Cleo asks "we've been well you know swimming." I say "it's the best thing. The reef is out of this world " Rikki says "that's great.So has anyone been able to finish that calculus homework?question 7s a nightmare. " Cleo says trying to change the subject. "We missed you this morning." I say "yeah, why weren't you answering your phone?" Emma asks "and that project on geography, that's due Thursday. We really need to go get together on that one." She says still trying to change the subject. "Listen,cleo, whatever's happened to us is incredible. You've got to come out with us, the waters amazing." Rikki says "I'm not doing it, ok. I didn't ask for any of this to happen to us So stop bugging me about it, ok?" Cleo says getting annoyed We all just kinda sit there.
We end up going back to school since lunch was over. About an hour later we finished our science class and we found Lewis as soon as we got out the door "you bummed out, right?" Rikki asks "she's just taking a little to time to— yeah I bummed out." Lewis says we look over to see cleo about to walk down the stairs near us "I am pretty sure she doesn't want to talk about it." Lewis says "forget it Lewis. We can deal with this. It's a girl thing." Emma says and we all walk away from him to cleo on the steps "Cleo, about this whole mermaid business." Emma says "there are more important things in life than see how long you can hold your breath for and frolicking with the dolphins." Cleo says "I don't frolic. I glide." Rikki corrects "whatever it's not important. I don't want to talk about it." Cleo says "How can you say that? This is the most amazing thing that's ever happened to us. Probably the most amazing thing that's ever happened to anybody." I say "well, what about the turtles?" Cleo says "Turtles?" Emma asks clearly as confused as us "apparently, a sea turtle got caught in a fishing net this morning. that's important." Cleo says "I don't believe this, your such a hypocrite." Rikki says "Why?" "Cleo, your dads a fisherman. His nets are the one trapping the turtles." Rikki says "that's not true, my dad would never do that." Cleo says "Really?" With that Cleo walks away.
After school me,Emma and Rikki went swimming We're having fun until we see fishing nets on top of the water Emma points at a turtle that's stuck in the net Rikki swims up to the top and grabs a knife cutting the net and putting the knife back The turtle swims away happily.
Later on we're chilling at juice-net and the news is on "local fishermen today have been confronted with a possible menace from the deep. Commercial fishermen have reported incidents that may involve a rogue shark." The reporter says "Hey guys what's going on?" Cleo asks "hey Cleo, your dads on tv." Byron cuts in from the bar "I've fished these waters for a long time. And there's only one thing that causes damage like that a huge, rogue shark." Cleo's dad say on the tv "Poor dad." Cleo says "sorry to have to tell you this, Cleo, but your dad didn't catch a shark. It was a turtle." Rikki says "We cut the net to set it free." I finish "no way. My dad wouldn't catch turtles."Cleo says "It's true, Cleo. I'm sorry. " Emma assures Cleo stays quite After a couple minutes she leaves.
We meet up with Cleo again at the juice-net "he denied everything, it's really awful. I'm mean what could I say, I know your lying dad because my mermaid friends saw you fishing close to the nesting beach ." Cleo says sarcastically "His using illegal nets too." Rikki says "It's true. They didn't have those grid things in them." Emma confirms "this just gets worse and worse. My dad." Cleo
Says "To be honest, we didn't actually see your dad." I say "but it was his boat right?" Cleo asks we nod 'yeah'.
Later on me, Emma and rikki are walking down the doc "grate now every fishermen on this side of the planet is getting psyched to catch that stupid shark." I say "shark? Don't you guys worry if it's still out there it's sushi. " Some guy says holding up a fish hook We look at him creeped out and walk away "what a circus." Emma says "they'll be searching every wreck." I say "ready for a swim?" Rikki asks "no way it's to dangerous with theses guys out here. Let's face it until it cools down we're grounded." Emma says I nod.
Were all hanging out minus cleo when Lewis comes over and tells us cleo needs us and it was to do this the boat and that she's in the water we run to the water We swim to see cleo stuck in the net Emma freezes the motor while me and Rikki get cleo out the net We bring her up to the top "Are you okay?" I ask "Yeah. I panicked. I didn't know you could hold your breath for that long. But then I remembered what you guys said. And you know what? I lost count at 16 and a half minutes." Cleo says proudly "Later guys." Rikki says Then we all swam home Cleo told us about how it was one of her dads employees Eddie that was trapping the turtles and using the wrong nets Cleo went to tell her dad about Eddie and Eddie got fired.
The next day we met with Lewis "Guys, look, turtle eggs." I say smiling "Ohh." I smile "Little turtles are so cute." Cleo says "I hope they all make it." Emma says "So you wanted to show me something. " He says "yes I do.ready?" Cleo says we all nod and run into the water showing Lewis We decide to show Cleo around where we've been swimming.
